For example, when arguing that there is a necessity for stricter firearm control in the state, I would offer the latest gun violence statistics. Specifically, I would note that the number of gun deaths in the state is still high, with 69 mass shootings taking place from 2014 through 2018 (Center for American Progress, 2019). Using these facts would allow me to depict myself as a knowledgeable writer who is familiar with the topic and has performed extensive research on it.
