The information presented in the article “Food Insecurity and Obesity-Promoting Maternal Infant Feeding Styles and Practices in Low-Income Families” by Gross serves the purpose of showing that while eating a lot of food may lead to obesity, not having enough food may as well lead to obesity. It shows that low-income earning families face food insecurity and they have overweight children.
The importance of this article is that it helps the learner to have an idea of why food insecurity among low-income earners exposes them to the risk of suffering from obesity. The points raised by the article show that; food insecurity which means lack or scarcity of food has a direct relationship with feeding practices applied to children, which in turn increases obesity among children.
When mothers control what the child eats, it disrupts the child’s ability to regulate his hunger or fullness leading to inappropriate feeding practices (Gross 2012). The questions raised are; what causes obesity in poor families? What is the cure for obesity?
