Responsibility of management is normally left on the hands of managers who act as the stewards of owners interests in the respective organizations (Griffin, 1996). Managers in all organizations almost perform the same basic functions.

These functions entail; planning, organizing, leading, and controlling (Buffett & Clark, 11997). These functions placed in the right mixture proportions lead an organization to greater heights. It is the responsibility of the management to ensure organization objectives are met.

Hence, they should ensure the four functions are integrated well. Safaricom that is a blue chip telecommunication company has achieved very greater heights through profitability as well as growth. Their management has shown that it is not a dream accomplishing objectives when the management sets targets, policies and objectives and acts on them.

Planning in an organization involves developing an action pathway in advance. The strategic management committee that sets strategic organizational goals normally does this in big companies (Havinal, 2009).

Safaricom does this by going down into the preparation of a master budget, which is then broken down, to the departmental budgets. Here, each department is given a financial target that it is expected to contribute to the overall projected objects.

Safaricom also undertakes planning through establishment of deadlines for tasks assigned as well as employee scheduling. The management reinforces these by being so strict and stern on their decisions to ensure their attainment (Griffin,1996). Organization involves the effective use of resources to ensure the attainment of organizational objectives.

Here, the concerned officer ensures that each organizational resource right from the personnel is rightfully attached to the objectives they are supposed to help achieve (Schermerhorn, 2011). Safaricom Company has successfully employed this by treating their employees with a lot of freedom and letting them posses adequate authority to help them achieve this.

Also, exercises actively the act of delegation. This is done across both vertically and horizontally uniformly through the organization. Only less sensitive jobs are normally delegated. Leading is the act of exercising or exerting influence in the organization by officers who posses such powers who in this case are the managers.

Various leadership styles are adopted to fit the situations of the day (Buffett & Clark, 11997). In safaricom, leadership has been successfully achieved by taking care of the employee welfare, rewarding high achievers hence motivation to work.

Promotion of deserving employees ensures employees work even harder to earn such rare promotions. Controlling normally ensures checks and balances. Here, targets are set to enhance comparison with actual achievements is made to detect deviations (Havinal, 2009).

Managers will only have the power to exercise this function if they are in the position of leading. In line with this safaricom recruits its employees at best from wherever across the globe as long as they get the best and who deserves to lead the firm as the figurehead and Brand.

Employees of safaricom have always been highly motivated to work with the company given the treatment they are given at work. Irrespective of how closely they are monitored, they still feel appreciated and motivated to work even at times without supervision.

This is witnessed with their customer care services, which are so efficient. The control mechanisms at the firm have bore more fruits. For example, over the past few years the profitability of the company has been seen to grow tremendously with 18milion and 19milion in years 2009 and 2010 respectively.
