Introduction
Framing is one of the key concepts in an organization as it is used to influence decision-making in a business. Therefore, when reframing, one has to look at the situations in an organization in different dimensions to mitigate biases and enhance clarity. The major frames in the organization that may influence the operations comprise people, structures, symbols, and power. A symbolic frame is essential in an organization as it helps evaluate cultural practices in the firm that influence business operations (Bolman & Deal, 2017). Culture helps to form a bond that unites different people, which helps an enterprise in achieving its objectives. At my workplace, a symbolic frame is considered the least relevant compared to the other four frames, as illustrated in this course. There is a strong sense of cultural diversity as most employees come from different cultural programs, making it difficult to work as a team in attaining organizational goals.
Discussion
The operations of the firm are based on strong values that were symbolically adopted by the British. There is a culture of employees gathering together and having a cup of tea with the objective of bonding. The uniqueness in the values adopted by the organization helps the employees attain confidence towards delivering their best to the company. The values and culture attained at my workplace help employees find a sense of belonging and feel proud of the organization. The management of the organization enhances cultural diversity by conducting ceremonies. It is through ceremonies that the employees can socialize and interact with people from different cultural backgrounds. The rituals and ceremonies conducted in the organization symbolically reveal that at a place of work, there is a need to have activities that relieve the staff from stress. The manager, who has separate powers from other members, authorizes different events and operations at the company.
What made this Case Symbolic
The aspect of having a ritual at our workplace that was copied from British culture makes the case above to be symbolic. We have a ritual of sitting together and having a cup of tea whereby every employee bonds with each other. Furthermore, symbolism has been enhanced in the above case through culture. It is evident that the managers at my organization believe in holding ceremonies that will enhance employee cultural diversity (Bolman & Deal, 2017). Symbolism frame involves the aspect of an organization that embraces cultural practices and rituals. Therefore, the case at my organization qualifies it to be symbolic.
One of the frames that has not been addressed in my case is the human resource frame. This involves the aspect of managing people in the organization and group dynamics. For instance, the HR manager at my workplace has good managerial skills. Through the HR management skills possessed by the manager, people from different cultural backgrounds can bond together through ceremonies, rituals, and values that form the company’s symbol. It should be noted that the symbolic frame should involve the aspects of loyalty, humor, inspiration, and being passionate when working (Bolman & Deal, 2017). The manager at the organization has no passion for improving the employees’ skills. It is in humor that despite the company holding different rituals, no business meeting had been conducted to evaluate the skills and capabilities of the workers. Looking at the scenario in my case, the HR frame could improve the quality of work done by the employees. Through bonding, workers and managers will gain passion to work as well as interact with people from different cultural backgrounds.
Conclusion
People at the workplace should be introduced to symbolic elements as this is one of the key objectives. As a result of less passion, it is not easy to introduce employees to symbolic frames that present economic values to the company (Bolman & Deal, 2017). Therefore, leaders must have passion for what they deliver, as this will help impact the careers of other employees. The symbolic frame is presented as a whole when people are passionate about a different career. In a workplace environment, embracing the aspect of passion among the workers is valuable. A good work environment will consist of the values, rituals, cultural values, and skills to help others attain the best for the company.
