Generally, the effectiveness and competitiveness of companies all over the world are defined by various factors, including external and internal ones. Global business climate may be defined as the way countries and their authorities tend to treat or support global organizations and the way the global economy and other factors influence firms. Nowadays, it is possible to say that the business climate is not very positive or promising.
Current and recent global events have had a significant impact on the way companies from different industries operate. As noticed by specialists, the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic still impact the global business climate (World Bank, 2022). The way most countries struggle with their economies does not allow the overall situation to become more positive. Though many states, including the U.S., managed to reduce unemployment rates that were increased during the coronavirus outbreak, there is now a severe labor shortage, which affects global businesses.
At the same time, people begin to return to their normal lives and spend more money on less necessary items and services. The recently started war in Ukraine and the events that followed it will definitely influence the global business climate. For instance, oil prices are rising, and global equity prices are falling (World Bank, 2022), and sanctions on Russia and the unstable state of Ukraine will affect global companies because the latter will have difficulties with imports.
Specific companies already suffer the consequences of recent events. For instance, many e-commerce companies like Amazon are having and will probably continue facing difficulties with providing their services to Russia and Ukraine. Considering that these countries’ residents make up a major part of Amazon’s clients, such companies will have decreased profits. Therefore, it is possible to say that the global business climate is not very stable and positive today.
