Introduction

Globalization influences different spheres of human life and changes a variety of economic, political, cultural, and environmental interconnections (Steger 9). After visiting one of the local electronics stores, Best Buy, it is evident that globalization has already successfully penetrated the sphere of trade. The presence of numerous imported items and the names of the different countries that make these products prove that the USA is a country that is ready to cooperate with different nations to offer its citizens a variety of choices. The location of the chosen Best Buy is CambridgeSide Galleria, 100. It is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Customers can find a number of brand-name electronics at this store. The next five items are chosen for the analysis:

  • Samsung LED TV (40” Class Diag.) made in Korea;
  • Toshiba LET TV (32” Class Diag.) made in Japan;
  • Apple iPhone 7 32 GB (Black) made in the USA;
  • Withings – Body Cardio Scale (Black) made in France; and
  • Asus ROG GL502VM 15.6” Laptop made in China.

These choices show that the store has many items made in different countries. Globalization could be used as an explanation for the possibility of promoting the same goods around the world (Woodward 136). Therefore, it is necessary to understand the reasons for a store’s importing and clarify if this idea is good or not.

Analysis

The cooperation of the store with the companies from different countries has a number of benefits, including the presence of choice, quality changes, the exchange of experience, and the possibilities to use different resources. The main reasons for why the store imports from China are cheap prices and the possibility to support the global trade balance (Chu par. 1; Xinhua par. 3). According to the United States-Korea trade agreement that came into force in 2012, the number of tariffs have been reduced considerably or removed completely (Kuberka and Jones par. 1).

This agreement helps to introduce new products to the market with only a few costs spent on its importing. In other words, the reduction in costs is also the benefit that cannot be neglected. Importing from Japan has its pros as well. If the store wants to become a leader in the industry, it is necessary to import as many items as possible and offer unique products in a short period of time. Best Buy should be one of the first organizations to import a fresh product from such a country as Japan due to its possibilities of inventing new technologies.

France takes sixth place in the export economy. Therefore, it is not a surprise that the store cooperates with this country as well. French electronics have their advantages, and Best Buy is ready to introduce the production and attract the attention of customers. The provision of high-quality products is one of the goals set by the store. Finally, in the store, there are many items made in the USA that prove that the store respects the achievements made by the local manufacturers and promote its items among customers.

In general, although the idea of importing goods from such countries as Japan, China, Korea, and France is good indeed because of the possibilities to offer different goods and a different quality of goods at different prices, Best Buy is a store that supports local manufacturers and promotes local production. These two steps are crucial to the American economy.
