In most of the political structures and a cross diverse states and countries, there must be a chief executive officer who is the top most leader of every country. In most of the cases, and as outlined by the constitution which happens to be the superlative law of any country, the chief executive officer is the president. The position is elective as dictated by the written law, and the president gets the opportunity to be elected by the citizens at the polls.

Good and recent examples were witnessed in the United States of America, where the presidential elections were held. The people got the opportunity to elect the president that in their view could help propel the national interest, and a person of high integrity profiles. Therefore, as required by the supreme law of the land, that the presidential elections to be held in every four years, the republican and democrat presidential hopefuls battled it out.

It was an election that saw the incumbent president Barrack Obama beat his rival Romney. Being the supreme laws of the country, the constitution outlines certain powers and privileges accorded to the elected president. The president must be fully guided by the law, whenever he executes his mandate and duties as the president of the country. This therefore means that at no time, will the president be above the laws of the country he or she administers. However, as I mentioned earlier concerning the privileges that the sitting president enjoys, he or she can make some public or rather informal declarations that he deemed healthy for the nation, this is very important for the president of a nation.

These healthy declarations geared to better the nation, or to shape up the interest of the nation, are protected by the law and the president enjoys immunity on them.

However, since the president is the chief executive officer of the nation, especially in the developed or developing counties, he ought to be performing the most crucial jobs in the country, lest the country disintegrate and fails. He is the national leader and hence must delegate certain jobs to his junior officers in order to embark on the most important duties.

The elected president must be well organized to ensure that the state is well protected from any external and internal threats, and that his people live well. This undertaking is possible because most of the presidents in the developing and developed countries are not only the head of the states, but also the commander in chief of the armed forces. These indispensable duties of the president cannot allow the president to be a mere clerk in the office, but rather to delegate some clerical and administrative duties to some of his juniors. Hence the issue and the question of leadership arise.

In most of the cases, the president interacts with other presidents from different countries and borrows a leaf from them. This helps in bringing a solution to any crisis that a country may be facing. This role actually needs the president to be somebody with an ability to fairly interact with his fellows for a healthy nation.

Qualities of a good president

To be precise, not all people were born to be leaders, and hence they lack leadership skills; similarly not all presidents can make good leaders. We have seen many cases where the president of the country is involved in severe bad governance and crooked ways. In Africa and Europe we have seen leaders who had problems of leadership in their countries. There are characteristic traits that the president of a nation must have in order for him to be a good leader.

Integrity ; the president will be a good leader if his integrity is not questionable. For instance, he must have an upright ethics with good records of high moral standards. The integrity level of any president will make him a good leader, hence commanding respect from the people. In this case, people shall have trust in the sitting president and good governance shall prevail in the country.

Honesty; for the president to be a good leader who is respected, he should uphold highest level of honesty when dealing with the people or discharging his duties. Honesty and integrity will also make people from other countries admires to live in the county where there is a good system of governance and good leaders.

Accountability; a good leader must be accountable for all the aspects of his leadership, and any matter that may arise in terms of economic, political and social issues. The leader must therefore take the earliest step to correct any error that may creep in his or her governance.

Confidentiality; as a matter of fact, nobody will like the leader who washes his or her dirty linen in the public. I am certain that no human being is perfect and therefore not all the undertakings or kind of leadership they offer may be perfect. As backed by the constitutional oath that the presidents normally take, secrets of the country must be kept.

In conclusion, the presidents always appear to be in control when dealing with the foreign undertakings because of the reputation he has earned, due to his good governance and leadership. The foreign leaders therefore normally accord him all the due respect and always want to listen to him. Because the president no longer undertakes clerical duties at the national level, he is in indirect control of the domestic issues but rather delegate them to his juniors.
