Introduction
Arnold Schwarzenegger has proposed $386 budget cuts to the CSU
Recently Arnold Schwarzenegger has expressed an idea in cutting California State University’s budget to improve the financial position of the state. His offer of to 386$ in cuts was supported by the Board of Trustees and shocked almost all the members of the institution. To be more exact, such decision can result in reduction of people’s educational level. Few young people will have an opportunity to attend this university, which was considered to be one of the cheapest institutions and available for all who have a desire to study.
Interviews
The authorities of the University showed their negative attitude towards the situation and spoke on the topic a lot, and students of the CSU were eager to visit the meetings of the protest to express different thoughts as to this situation.
Some professors desired to share their opinions as this idea. Lillian Taiz, who is the President of the California Faculty Association, says that this decision can ruin a lot of dreams and prospects of young people. This University is a life hope for many students, it is a happy future of many families, but the increase of the fee can change the situation for the worse. “We owe it to our students to be the kind of leaders who will not allow this to happen without a fight,” Taiz said. “We cannot and will not accept these cuts. It would be bad for our students, bad for our system, and catastrophic for the state because as we all know, CSU is the solution.”
Ivona Grzegorczyk says that the country can lose a lot of future specialists of important professions such as teachers, nurses, engineers and many others. To his opinion these meetings of protest can bolster case to the state of California when we go to finalize the budget.
Deborah Campbell noticed: “This can lead to the catastrophic situation for a plenty of families.” He can’t understand why ordinary people should suffer economical problems and bear responsibility for finance crisis. He says that 10% tax increase will result in rising in the fee for the innocent students. It is really unfair.
California State University is really backbone for the life of the population. It is a background of the state education because every year it contributes about 89,000 people. That is why it is easy to understand a sharp protest of all the members, professors and students of the University. The number of young people of Afro-American origin who study at this institution can decrease because of their poor social position and disability to pay big money for education. This immediate way of trying to make the economical situation of the state promising will compulsorily affect all the students and future students of the California. But the decision has already been taken by the Board of Trustees and even protests on the part of population can hardly change it. The students and their families shouldn’t stay away from this problem and give up allowing the authorities to interfere with their future. They are a great power when they are together, because nobody but we are responsible for our destiny.
