Josephine Esther Mentzer, commonly known as Estee Lauder, was born in Corona, a region in the Queens Borough in New York, on July 1st, 1906. She was the daughter of Max Mentez, who worked as a tailor, and Rose Schotz. Rose had moved to the USA from Hungary in 1998 with her five children, where she later got married to Max and begat four children where Estee was the last born.

Estee attended Newton High School in Elmhurt and at the same time helped her father with his hardware. At her father’s store, she gained knowledge of the fundamentals of retailing and the significance of meticulousness (Hoover, 2018).
