Group participation is a very important aspect of learning as an individual develops in life.
Group dynamics play a significant role in determining learning of the important skills and attributes in life for instance leadership qualities in young individuals are greatly natured when group participation is encouraged. The environment provided by group dynamics is very essential for an individual in the sense that the forum makes it conducive for participation in group activities. This paper will focus on the leader and how the leader impacts the group’s dynamics and overall participation. In-class group discussions the leader determines whether the group succeeds or not. He determines the tone of the discussion and how individual members contribute to the discussion. I have been part of discussion groups in class and I can note that as a leader I used to set the pace for the entire session. Good leadership is very essential in such as setting especially when it comes to avoiding deviation from the main objectives of the sessions of discussion. The leader plays a very significant role in influencing the participation of the other group members. Through the leadership in a group, the task at hand becomes less challenging than it might appear without the participation of the leader. In a classroom group as a leader, I learned that it is important to put into consideration the views of other members so as to come up with an all-inclusive summary report of whatever assignment is undertaken.
Outside the classroom, leadership was also evident in the family unit whereby I demonstrated leadership in trying to be a model to be emulated by my younger brothers and sisters.
This was particularly notable during important family meetings whereby important decisions were made and my contribution became outstanding.
As a young Christian developing a character that is supposed to set the example for the rest is a very important tool in leadership. Having a strong heart to confront problems and provide workable solutions was part of this. Leadership that is characterized by democratic principles is what I believe and that is what I will always advocate for. As a group leader and an individual who believes in a democracy, the opinions of my group makers matter a lot in the decision-making process. My personal views are supposed to provide a guideline on the way to follow so as to achieve the set objectives in the necessary setting. Making my group members develop trust in me is a very essential ingredient for our success. This is achieved by being straightforward and avoiding bad habits such as being divided over an issue or double speech characteristics. Paying attention when members are giving out their views is a very important aspect of good leadership. A good leader like me does not look down upon the other group members. In case of disagreement in opinion good leadership has a role to harmonize views and avoid personalizing issues.
In conclusion, it is vital to underscore the fact that good leadership can be nurtured early in life as one goes through the various stages of development and institutions that are supposed to provide a conducive environment for developing leadership qualities. Participation in group activities I essential for developing future leaders in society. Therefore group activities should be promoted in all institutions of the society so as help nurture good leadership.
