There are numerous journals publishing articles related to health program planning, for example, Health Program Planning and Evaluation, Evaluation and Program Planning, Clinical Ophthalmology, Public Health Nursing, Assessment and Planning in Health Programs, American Journal of Community Psychology, and Journal of Public Health Management and Practice. Journals, such as BMC Public Health, Health Program Planning and Evaluation, Journal of Epidemiology & Community Health, Academic Psychiatry, Maternal, and Child Health Journal, and Journal of Medical Internet Research, publish articles about health program evaluation.
These journals contain studies that cover various current trends in the health field. Many articles in the journals focus on the application of quantitative and qualitative methods in health program planning and evaluation and consider approaches for the implementation of these programs in a low resource setting.
There are some health programs in the US for people with low income in order to help them to live better, and four of them are Child Care and Development Fund, Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). Only SNAP has a coalition, which is called the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), and comprises an administrator, a deputy under-secretary, and members of national and regional offices (About FNS, 2019).
According to Issel and Wells (2018), coalition effectiveness is based on the “use of formal rules and procedures, and inclusive leadership style, participation by members, a diverse membership, and collaboration with agencies” (p. 50). The coalition of SNAP fulfills the criteria mentioned above; moreover, participants in the organization have offices throughout the country. It means that it would be easy to become a potential participant of the health program.
Members of the planning bodies of any health program should be able to perform various roles. For example, planners should possess high moral integrity and even assume the role of a psychologist. People who want to participate in health programs may have various mental or physical problems. Therefore, providers of programs should be able to work and communicate with people of different characters.
