Overview of the Exhibition
The targeted exhibition for this paper was Hiroshi Sugimoto’s “Acts of God”. This was Hiroshi’s first display in the United States. The artist displayed his work in three separate galleries. The first gallery was “The Last Supper: Acts of God”. This was a 5-panel photograph measuring 24 feet. Sugimoto created the work in 1999. The artist based the photo on Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper”. Sugimoto photographed this work of art while he was in a Japanese museum. The infamous Hurricane Sandy of 2012 damaged the original photo. The features associated with this photo make it spectacular and meaningful to the viewer. The photo clearly indicates God’s acts on earth.
The second gallery portrayed a single work by Hiroshi Sugimoto. The artist photographed the work “Sea of Galilee, Golan” in 1992. The work portrays the historic Sea of Galilee where Christ walked on water. According to many Christians, Jesus Christ walked on this historic Sea of Galilee thus making it the first miracle as described in the Holy Bible. The black and white artwork also portrays a quiet seascape. The third gallery was a series of photographs by the artist. Each photograph depicted a bright candle flame. The flickering heat from the candle also appeared to scorch the photographic paper. This exhibition by Hiroshi Sugimoto’s portrays the acts and strengths of God. The exhibition communicated to both believers and non-believers. I found this display momentous and inspirational. I attended the show in order to understand the intended message to the viewer.
A Critical Account of the Photographs
This display by Hiroshi Sugimoto was meaningful. The works portrayed some of the artist’s skills. The first gallery was “The Last Supper: Acts of God”. This gallery explained why the world was becoming a risky place. The artist examined the delicate situation experienced by Jesus Christ. The photo also showed how the original piece of work by Leonardo encountered similar difficulties on earth. The artist did not remove the dramatic marks on the painting. The damage on the original photo occurred after the disastrous Hurricane Sandy hit New York City.
The photo sheds much light about the dangers of this world. It also encourages every person to be careful about the world. The second gallery by Sugimoto presents a single photo produced in 1992. The photo “Sea of Galilee Golan” portrays a nebulous horizon. The white and black seascape shows the dangers of the world. The photo also portrays a sense of hope in Jesus Christ. This work explains how Jesus made his first miracle on earth.
The photo explains how every person should take the miracle seriously in order to achieve the best in life. The artworks deliver the message of Christ to the audience. Every person should understand the importance of his or her faith. The galleries are critical towards changing the lives of every viewer. The third gallery portrays Sugimoto’s best work of art. Each of the five photos portrays a bright candle flame. The photos are meaningful to the viewer. The flames portrayed in these photos explain why Jesus is the light of the world. We can describe these flames as timed-bombs. They encourage every person to be aware of the changes in our universe. The flames in these five photos encourage every person to turn his or her eyes on Jesus Christ.
We can also interpret the messages presented in these photos differently. The viewer should examine these photos carefully. The viewer should use them in order to understand the challenges in our universe. We should all be ready to make good choices. The burning candles encourage every person to be aware of the universe. The heat produced by these candles also appears to burn the photos. This depiction shows how the world is merciless. Jesus Christ came to bring a new order and rescue humankind. Every person can use this information in order to have a new life. The artist uses these photos to encourage every individual to be ready and achieve happiness in life. The photos also explain why this world is not our home.
My Personal Response to the Exhibition
Most of these photos are meaningful to the viewer. I was happy to connect with the subject and message portrayed by these photos. The photos were inspirational because they equipped me with new ideas and concepts about the world. This knowledge echoed the purpose of these artworks. The experience was also relevant and inspirational. I related such photos to my personal experiences in the church. I have attended the church before in order to strengthen my values and religious practices. I am an Asian with strong beliefs and values. One of the best things about the church is that it presents the best environment for spiritual maturity.
The church is the best place because it consoles every believer. The church also supports the spiritual needs of many believers. The preachers, believers, and children share their ideas and thoughts. The practice makes the church one of the best places. I will attend more church services in order to strengthen my goals and religious virtues.
Most of the works by Hiroshi Sugimoto portrayed the best Christian values. The audience understood how they could re-examine their beliefs. The gallery also supported God’s message to every believer. The exhibition reawakened my feelings and views about the church. I felt consoled and motivated to realize my spiritual goals. Christians are good people who are always ready to show love and compassion. Jesus Christ portrays the same message in the photos. I also thought deeply about the nature of Christianity faith. Many Christians have remained focused and determined in order to follow God’s commandments. These photos encourage every person in the world to be ready because God’s son is coming soon.
Sugimoto’s piece of work “The Last Supper: Acts of God” shows how the future might be unpredictable. Every human being should follow God’s commandments in order to have a better life. The work also encourages every viewer to think deeply and appreciate every religious belief. This is the best practices towards making the world a better place for every person. I am planning to use these ideas in order to help my friends and relatives. The above practice will make the world good place for all. I will also attend more expositions in order to widen my understanding. These new ideas and skills will always make me a better person. The approach can also make the universe a better place for every person. We should emulate most of the practices observed in many churches in order to achieve our personal objectives.
