Healthcare services in the UAE do not meet international standards. The UAE healthcare industry experiences different challenges as discussed in this article. One of the challenges is the disparity in healthcare costs whereby different doctors have varying consultation fees. Besides, the cost of medical care is escalating speedily coupled with insufficient hospital beds. The UAE’s population is growing rapidly and the available four public and twenty-one private hospitals are not enough. Additionally, Saberi (2014) notes that doctors in this region require numerous tests, which in some cases are unnecessary. Patients view this trend as a rip off meant to cater for the new machines that hospitals have bought. The other issues include expensive drugs and long waiting time for patients before meeting a practitioner. Saberi (2014) adds that the UAE citizens lack sufficient information on risk factors that predispose individuals to sicknesses.
