Writing skill is a very essential aspect that any well-educated man is assumed to possess. My writing skills were not that good one year back and there is no denying this but I have really worked hard on my writing skills. Reading a lot of books has undoubtedly improved my writing skills, the more you read, the better you get at writing. I read several novels each month and the same has taught me how to construct sentences differently. I also write articles for several websites on the internet, one such website is associated content. I firmly believe that writing for internet websites has also improved my writing skills, I have also written many pages for Wikipedia. Wikipedia is another great source making the use of which any person can improve their writing skills. Reading and writing influence each other heavily and I have realized this, a person who is weak at reading or does not have interest in reading can never become a good writer. On the contrary, if a person has fetish for reading different books, he is ought to be good at writing as well. This paper will throw light upon what I think about my writing skills, a comprehensive analysis of how I have improved my writing skills will also be provided in this paper.
Sidney Sheldon is my favorite novelist and I have certainly learned a lot from his novels, I have improved upon my vocabulary by reading novels and other good books. Vocabulary is one aspect of writing that determines how good the writer is, a good writer always uses appropriate words for appropriate situations and I feel I am on the right track to becoming a good writer. I have worked on my vocabulary, I use the internet to improve my vocabulary, there are several websites like dictionary.com that are completely free to use and offer a great scope of improvement. There are several other websites like idioms.com for learning the latest idioms and phrases.
Improving reading and writing is a continuous process and no person can become a better reader or a writer overnight. This process involves a lot of dedication and sincerity. Even the likes of Sidney Sheldon, JK Rowling and others must have worked upon their writing extensively and this is exactly why they have become world-famous today. The flair for reading comes naturally to some and those people are blessed because they effortlessly develop their reading and writing skills, my case is very different from their case. I have worked upon this aspect of my personality; this has not come to me naturally.
Television is another great way to develop reading and writing skills, I listen to the commentary of various sports events like Soccer matches, NFL, Baseball etc and I feel this has done a lot of good to me. I am a better reader and a writer than ever before and I give all the credit to the media, newspapers, magazines, internet, television etc have made me a better writer and I know how to develop my writing skills further. I plan to write several short stories and poems and publish them in local magazines to develop my writing skills; this is how I will get better at writing.
