The film was honored with the Annie Awards. The critical reviews concerning the film were positive, mostly. All the events the film describes take place in the so-called Viking world. One of the main characters of the film is a boy Hiccup who wants to become a dragon slayer.

Main Body

First of all, I want to draw your attention to the main actors who play their parts in the film. So, they are a Canadian actor Jonathan Adam Saunders “Jay” Baruchel (he plays the part of Hiccup), a Scottish actor Gerard James Butler (he performs the role of Stoick the Vast), a Scottish American actor Craig Ferguson (he plays a part of Gobber the Belch), an American actress America Georgina Ferrera (performs a role of Astrid Hofferson), an American actor Christopher Charles Mintz-Plasse (plays a part of Fishlegs Ingerman), an American actor Jonah Hill Feldstein (plays a part of Hiccup’s classmate), a Scottish actor David Tennant (performs a role of Spitelout), an English actor Robin Atkin Downes (plays a part of Ack), an American actor Todd Joseph Miller (performs a role of Tuffnut), an American actress Kristen Carroll Wiig (plays a part of Ruffnut Thorston), etc.

Another point of discussion is considered to be the plot of the fantasy film. So, the inhabitants of Berk Island suffered from dragons plague. The dragons destroyed people’s houses and took food items away from the inhabitants. One of the main characters was a boy Hiccup, who was considered to be the son of the tribal chief. When the attack of dragons happened again, the boy decided to kill the Night Fury which was supposed to be one of the most dangerous kinds of dragons. Thus, Hiccup wounded the Night Fury and followed the dragon into the forest. There he realized that he couldn’t perform his plan (to kill the dragon) and decided to release a powerless animal. In ad interim, Hiccup’s father Stoick the Vast decided to find the dragons’ nest and sent his son to special classes where children studied the ways they could kill the dragons. Unfortunately, Hiccup was not second to none in dragon-killing classes and most of the time he spent in the forest where a Night Fury lived.

Once, the boy realized that the dragon could not fly because its tail was injured. Moreover, Hiccup realized that the dragon needed some care. Thus, for the first time, the boy paid no heed to his affection towards the animal. The dragon Night Fury was named Toothless after its ability to draw in its teeth. The boy made a prosthetic tail for his new friend. A little bit later, Hiccup became one of the best pupils who studied the ways how to kill the dragons. As a reward for his killing skills, Hiccup was allowed to kill his first dragon. At that time Hiccup’s father came back to the village. He stated that the dragons’ nestle was not found, unfortunately. When the boy went to the forest again, his friend Astrid followed him. The girl wanted to tell everybody about the dragon Hiccup communicated with, but the tribal chief’s son asked Astrid to keep silent. He made Astrid sit down on the dragon’s back, and soon the girl realized that she was not afraid of the animal anymore. Toothless made its way to the dragons’ nestle. There, Hiccup and Astrid saw a gigantic dragon and understood that stolen food items were used by the biggest dragon only. The girl wanted to tell about the gigantic creature, but Hiccup asked her to keep silent again, as he wanted to defend his new friend – the Night Fury.

As far as Hiccup became the best student, he had to fight with the dragon. During the contest, he wanted to convince the inhabitants of the dragon’s true nature, but his father stopped the battle. The dragon made a surprise attack on Hiccup, and the dragon Night Fury rushed to the attack to protect Hiccup. The chief’s son tried to explain everything to his father, but failed, unfortunately. The inhabitants were already informed of the dragons’ nestle and were ready to fight.

A little bit later, Hiccup came to the dragons’ nestle with the Night Fury, and killed the gigantic dragon; however, he lost his leg.
