Human Resource planning

Definition and importance

Human resource planning is the process of analyzing and identifying the needs for human resources and their availability, which helps a company or an organization to realize its objectives (Mathis & Jackson 2010). For any company or organization to prosper, there must be an effective human resource management department.

The profession is evolving and people need to keep pace with the evolution for maximum growth of the respective work places. Many problems are associated with Human Resource planning and recruiting in a tight labor market (Mathis & Jackson 2010). The automobile Service Center in Boomtown, Colorado is no exception to this.

These problems need to be overcome in order to realize the set goals of any given company or organization. Human Resource planning should be linked to a company’s or an organization’s strategic goals in order to ensure a competitive advantage (Mathis & Jackson 2010).

Lack of HR planning in the automobile Service Center

The automobile Service Center in Boomtown, Colorado truly lacks human resource planning which has led it to loose a number of employees. In order to maintain the employees, they should be treated well in that there should better working conditions and terms (Mathis & Jackson 2010).

Being located in a place where there are many job opportunities, the automobile service should take extra measures in its human resource planning in order to avoid losing its work force to other companies. The company has failed to realize that it should offer wages that are high and above what people can earn in the coalmines and the exploration companies.

Recruiting mechanics

Approaches

Having tested the pain of losing employees to the nearby companies, the automobile Service Center should have learnt a great lesson. The mechanics should be hired on better working conditions and terms in order to maintain them. Employees should not only be given high wages but also be made to understand that there are set systems for pay increase (Sims, 2007).

Because the rate of unemployment is very low in the area, the automobile should consider recruiting the workers not because of their experience, but on their ability. It can set up strategies to train them before they start their job and of course, the training session should be paid.

How to maintain the mechanics

The mechanics should be made to feel that it is their duty to do their work to their level best and this can be achieved best through motivating the mechanics (Mathis & Jackson 2010). The company should consider offering them allowances that are not offered in the coalmines and the exploration companies that are nearby.

They should be given benefits for health care, retirement and family and on top of that, they should be given some time off which should be paid (Sims, 2007). Mitt should avoid being discriminative in any way. All employees should be made to feel that they are treated the same despite their differences in gender, age, color to mention just but a few.

When this happens, an atmosphere of friendliness will be created; there will be a feeling of unity and everyone will work with much ease (Mathis & Jackson 2010). To ensure that the mechanics bring about the best results, Mitt should consider giving them in service training every now and then.
