Human Trafficking as a Terrorist Activity Essay

Introduction

It is paramount to mention that terrorism is a topic that has been actively discussed over the last few years. The fact that the number of casualties is astounding most of the time should not be overlooked. The scope of this issue also needs to be mentioned because it affects almost every single country all over the world. The biggest problem that is worth mentioning is that it is believed that the number of such activities is growing at an incredibly fast rate, and it is important to take necessary measures to limit and prevent such incidents.

Human Trafficking

It is important to mention that human trafficking is a serious offense and is regarded as a violent of the rights of an individual. The fact that numerous activists have managed to draw attention to this topic should not be overlooked, and some of the stories that are told by the victims are especially worrying. The problem that needs to be discussed is that it is not recognized as a unique terrorist activity in some parts of the world because the population does not have access to necessary information.¹

It is necessary to mention that one of the issues that complicate the research is that many individuals do not want to report instances of human trafficking. The reason is that such an experience can be traumatizing, and they are worried that it may affect their personal life. However, every person should have an understanding of his or her rights, and such information is kept confidential most of the time. It needs to be said that there is a dramatic dissimilarity in the way this problem is described by scientists, and some think that numerous internal and external factors are not taken into account most of the time. It is believed that economic inflexibility and possible political corruption should be perceived as problems that complicate the situation.²

Another issue that is identified is that an individual that helps with trafficking is not recognized as a particular type of offender according to the international criminal law, and many suggest that it is necessary.³ It is imperative to note that it is much different from enslavement most of the time, and should be treated as a separate type of offense. It is necessary to mention that there are various reasons for human trafficking but one of the aspects that need to be mentioned is performed against the will of a particular person in all the cases. Another aspect that should not be overlooked is that the safety and well-being of citizens are of utmost importance, and the government must take necessary measures to make sure that the number of such incidents is reduced.

Another issue that needs to be discussed is that many individuals lack the education and necessary knowledge to comprehend why this is such an enormous problem. One of the core problems that are worth noting is that it is believed that some agencies are not ready to investigate and combat such activities.⁴ Also, it is necessary to say that sex trafficking is especially problematic because it may lead to severe consequences such as depression and suicidal behavior. It is paramount to mention that such offense is closely connected to prostitution, and it is believed that the number of incidents would be reduced in some areas if it becomes legally acceptable.⁵

The problem is that that this crime is still not well-researched, and there are still numerous arguments and disagreements. Also, another aspect that is worth noting is that the numbers that are claimed by government agencies are doubted by some scientists because sources were not revealed. The role of OSCE organization also should not be overlooked, and some of the plans of action that it has developed can be regarded as comprehensive (Giammarinaro 247).⁶ Removal of organs is also a critical issue, and the presence of black markets is especially worrying. The fact that one could become a victim of human trafficking when he or she is abroad also should not be disregarded most of the time, and it is especially problematic because research is much more complicated.

Impact

The way this issue has affected our everyday lives should not be overlooked. It needs to be said that most individuals started to be much more careful, and have an understanding of what activities should be avoided to reduce possible risks. It is imperative to note that it is necessary for every member of the society to always be aware of human trafficking, and have an understanding of what course of action should be taken in case there is any suspicion about terrorist activities. The fact that most individuals are mistreated and have to live in dangerous conditions of constant fear of death should be taken into account. Every member of the society should understand that it is paramount to offer help and support to the victims and to spread the knowledge.

Such individuals may have problems with communication, and it is necessary to develop relationships that would increase their level of trust. The way this problem affects world politics also should not be disregarded because it is evident that many countries have started to collaborate to address this issue. It is necessary to mention that the fact that the information is spread with the use of such technologies as the Internet and social media is also vital because it increased the awareness of this issue. For example, this problem has affected several events such as the 2010 World Cup, and it was necessary to increase the number of police officers to guarantee the safety of visitors. Governments must develop sets of policies that are related to human trafficking because this topic is incredibly controversial and has led to numerous protests and meetings.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is paramount to note that human trafficking is an enormous issue that needs to be addressed. One of the most significant aspects that should not be disregarded is that it is especially problematic in some regions, and a need for intervention may be necessary in some cases. It is necessary to say that it is likely that this issue will be resolved in the future because most countries have recognized it as one of the most significant issues. However, cooperation may be necessary because this problem is still not fully understood and an enormous amount of resources may be required. Overall, education and provision of necessary information are of utmost importance, and every individual should have an understanding of what measures should be taken to reduce any possible risks.
