The human race has seen significant progress over the past few decades. The groundbreaking innovations in technology have stretched the boundaries of possibilities in a range of areas (“Neil deGrasse Tyson”). However, with greater opportunities in encouraging technological development comes greater responsibility in preventing threats to the progress and even existence of humankind (“David Suzuki’s Time Capsule”). To address the described concern, one should keep in mind the dual nature of the human mind and focus on encouraging peace and progress as the end goal of any endeavor.
However, the prospects of humankind may be quite morbid if the priorities are shifted toward destructive goals. With disruptive innovations in technology, the threat of a disaster that could potentially “wipe out the entire human race,” as Steven Hawking put it, will increase (“Stephen Hawking’s Time Capsule”). For this reason, the focus on negotiation and the search for strategies for promoting peace will have to be seen as a priority.
For this purpose, the continuity of global efforts to encourage the development and well-being of the human race will have to be the focus in the future. Intergenerational communication can be seen as the gateway to maintaining the continuity of global progress and the support of global peace (“Mikhail Gorbachev’s Time Capsule”). Thus, the enhancement of cross-cultural communication will need to be recognized as the essential objective.
Among the key obstacles, the propensity to conflicts caused by the uneven distribution of resources can be viewed as a major threat. Wangari Maathai points to the probability of a vast resource conflict caused by the unreasonable use of the available non-renewable materials presently (“Wangari Maathai – Resources and Conflict”). However, with a more mature attitude and hindsight, humankind will be able to prevent confrontations and focus on managing resource-related issues in a peaceful way. Reconsidering the policies that contribute to the mismanagement of resources currently will help to reduce the threat of resources-related disagreements in the future.
