There are numerous types of immigration admissions and control policies that are used in the United States of America. However, there are those appropriate ones that the U.S. should adopt in order to achieve major objectives. Some of these policies are permanent, while others are just temporary. Notably, there should be a thorough review of the current policies and also a proposal of new ones in order to meet the general objectives as articulated by the U.S. admissions and immigration board.
For instance, in order to provide the U.S. economy with the much needed immigrant labor; the country should adopt a permanent legal mode of residence for non-citizens. This means that the country has to establish laws that allow foreigners to reside in the country and supply it with permanent labor instead of relying on temporary labor plans to support the economy. In order to establish this type of immigration admissions and control policy, the government needs to decimate the stay of temporary residents.
This can be achieved by establishing legal and permanent permits for foreign nationals through the use of visa (Tsuda 87). In any case, temporary laborers who do not have U.S. citizenship may hardly provide sustainable labor needs for the U.S. economy bearing in mind that the government has to balance labor supply on a regular basis.
In line with this, in order to reduce illegal immigration to the U.S., the government should largely embrace the use of a visa waiver system of immigration admissions and control policies. Notably, this system will allow specific immigrants to dwell in the country for a specific period of time. Nevertheless, the government should establish a mechanism of identifying those who are in the country illegally. In this case, issuing of immigrants with visa will easily make it cumbersome for immigrants to enter into the country illegally.
Quite often, people develop a negative opinion towards immigration largely due to the fact that they have a perception that only citizens from certain countries are offered admissions and citizenship into the U.S. For this reason, it is indeed necessary to eliminate the negative perception by establishing a type of immigrant admissions and policy control program known as a diversity program. This kind of program will indeed allow immigrants from any part of the world to settle in the U.S.
This can be made possible through the green card lottery. Additionally, the government will give more preference to countries with low immigration rates. Therefore, basing the argument on the three objectives, it is important to advocate for a mix of immigration policies that will cover all of them at once. For instance, it will be highly recommendable to set up a well-established type of immigration admissions and control policy that comprise of both legal as well as permanent resident permit. It is worthy of reiterating that the latter should also be diversity-oriented through the use of visa as valid a document.
This will enable the country to achieve the three major objectives at once while eliminating the currently prevailing challenges such as negative perspective, illegal immigration, and labor shortage. In addition, if the aforementioned measures are taken into account, it will be possible for the government to take some keen assessment on the labor needs of the country at any given time.
