Introduction
In the modern world, a significant number of irritants can negatively affect the psychological state of a person. Factors such as friends, study, relationships with parents, and others shape the young person’s emotional state. It is imperative to emphasize the ability to control the student’s abilities, as this directly affects his academic performance and future career (Video). Using two tools, impulse control, and delayed gratification, one can significantly improve their life and build quality relationships with others.
The Importance of Impulse Control and Delayed Gratification
Above all, it is essential to emphasize that impulse control and delayed gratification are important components of overall emotional well-being. For me, as a college student, this kind of well-being is critical because, at my age, emotions can strongly influence a person’s actions and determine their destiny, academic success, and career. As Video states, “in the workplace, people with high EQ get hired more often, promoted more often, and get raises more often…”. Appropriate impulse control allows one not to make hasty decisions, and delayed gratification teaches one to be patient and industrious. They are vital for me because they allow me to build a sustainable emotional background of my life in many spheres, such as family, friends, and education.
When I Have Appropriately Controlled my Impulses
In today’s world, many marketing tricks are explicitly created so that people do not control their emotions and spend money on purchasing goods. My case is that having money, I could not give in to the impulses and emotions regarding purchasing a new iPhone. Despite the pervasive interest in this thing, I have appropriately controlled my impulses and did not buy it because I did not need this device.
Example of Delaying Gratification
Often, one has to work hard without getting anything in return. As a college student, I have many examples of delayed gratification. For example, when I decided to upgrade my skills in construction PowerPoint Presentations. Since it was not a college study subject, I could not immediately get any grades for making presentations. Therefore, I had to work hard to improve my presentations, and only then did other people appreciate it.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it is important to stress that the emotional intelligence video describes critical factors for any person’s life. Using impulse control is an essential step toward rational thinking. On the other hand, delayed gratification allows one to treat difficulties and failures patiently. In my life as a college student, I had the experience of both methods. As a result, they greatly simplified my life.
