This article, “Ever Wonder if You Could Kill What You Eat? We Did the Other Night,” by Makenna Goodman, is a personal perspective on the author’s experience of killing and cooking her food. The author describes her experience as “killing and preparing her own supper.” The author discusses how she concluded that she should go on a hunting expedition with her friends even though it presented her with emotional and ethical challenges. She ponders the separation between customers and the farms or other sources from which the food they eat comes, and she wonders whether or not eating meat is moral. The author also discusses the adverse effects of the industrial meat business on the environment and how this sector contributes to the eradication of natural ecosystems.

The author makes a thought-provoking argument and brings up important points about the ethical consequences of eating beef. She emphasizes, via her own experience of murdering an animal for food, the separation between consumers and the source of the food they eat, as well as the moral consequences of inflicting needless damage to sentient creatures, by sharing her story (Goodman, 2009). The fact that the author discusses the influence of the industrial meat business on the environment provides more support for the contention that consuming meat is unethical.

Additionally, she explains in her article that killing your food can give you a greater appreciation and respect for the animal and a greater understanding that the food you consume once had a life that was taken for your own survival. Further, she says that this can give you a greater understanding that the food you consume has a life taken for its nutritional value (Goodman, 2009). She believes that the more people understand this process, the more probable they will make ethical choices about the foods they consume and the methods by which they get their nourishment. She has high expectations that people would become more aware of the repercussions of the food they eat and be more inclined to make decisions that are kinder to the environment and animals if they are responsible for killing their own food.

Although some people believe that meat consumption is a personal choice and not a moral issue, I believe that eating meat is morally wrong because it involves causing unnecessary harm to sentient animals, contributing to environmental destruction, promoting a violent and unhealthy culture, and disconnection between consumers and the source of their food.

Consuming meat requires taking a life, and the industrialization of the meat industry has led to the inhumane treatment of animals, mass deforestation and pollution, and a lack of transparency in the food system. According to Goodman (2009), it is essential to consider the ethical implications of our food choices and their impact on animals, the environment, and society. By choosing to consume meat, individuals are complicit in the perpetuation of a system that causes immense suffering and harm. It is essential to consider the moral weight of our actions and acknowledge our food choices’ impact on the world around us.
