This paper discusses a job description for the position of information technology manager.

Job Summary

The information technology manager will be required to oversee and coordinate all activities in the information technology department. The candidate will supervise the installation and maintenance of the company’s telephone services and network. He or she will also ensure that the company adheres to the telecommunication regulations as stipulated in government laws.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

The information and technology manager will perform the following specific functions. First, he or she will plan, organize and direct the work plans of all staff in the information technology department. Second, the candidate will monitor the company’s telephone communication, e-mail system, website and internet. This will ensure that all employees use the company’s telecommunication services appropriately. Third, he or she will design and manage the company’s computer software and hardware.

Fourth, the manager will also develop an annual budget for the information technology department. He or she will be required to forecast the amount of funds required for maintenance, materials and equipment. Finally, he or she will develop short and long-term goals to guide the operations of the personnel in the information technology department.

Minimum Requirements

The candidate must attain the following minimum requirements. An applicant for this position must have a university degree in information technology science. He or she must have at least five years experience in managing information technology systems. The candidate must also have an in depth knowledge about computer programming, systems analysis and database administration. Additionally, he or she should be conversant with the principles used in the design, maintenance and installation of different information technology equipment and services.

Abilities Required

The candidate must have the ability to communicate clearly, understand customers’ needs and work effectively with other employees. He or she must also be able to prioritize tasks and work under pressure.
