Introduction
Nursing, as a professional discipline, is concerned with healing through caring and wholeness of the interaction between the environment and the well-being of humans. The nursing theory is designed to guide thoughts and practice on strongly held beliefs within the context of changing worldviews. It is stimulated by curiosities and questions that arise from practice and aids in explaining the services accorded to patients. Although the theory of nursing integrates the four meta paradigms the interest of this paper is health and nursing concepts.
The Health Metaparadigm
The metaparadigm of health connotes the degree of well-being that a person experiences. The implication is that it exists within a continuum such that a nurse cannot make an absolute statement on wellness (Smith, 2019). The nursing theory incorporates the health metaparadigm by taking a holistic approach to the treatment and management of clients. In essence, the nurses do not simply cure but also ensure that they address their patient’s physical, mental-psychological, and social-spiritual components. In addition, the theory stresses illness prevention as necessary for achieving the totality of health.
The Nursing Concept
The concept of nursing is concerned with the character, competencies, attributes, orientation, and experiences of professional nurses while carrying out their duties. The theory incorporates this paradigm by stipulating the key objective of nursing as offering specialized care to their clients. Moreover, the model advocates for nurses to ensure that they build relationships and empathize with their patients to have a sense of comfort and safety around them (Smith, 2019). The role of nurses should include an ongoing assessment and evaluation to inform how they teach their patients to work towards enhancing their quality of life. Therefore, the presentation of a nurse has a significant influence on the profession and its duty to humanity.
Conclusion
In summary, the health metaparadigm is concerned with the holistic wellness of the client’s body, soul, and mind. It is incorporated into the theory by stipulating the guidelines for achieving health in its totality through prevention. Nursing is about the individual nurse; in theory, they are urged to demonstrate competencies and empathy in dealing with their patients. Thus, by incorporating the paradigms, the nursing theory provides a perfect framework that professionals can follow to achieve optimum care for their clients.
