One of the hurdles that every leader can face along the way is the stigma of being an outsider. In her TED Talk, Cain (2012) informs the audience about the challenges faced by introverted influencers. Cain (2012) believes that unjustified alienation from common activities threatens the social and economic status of introverts. The topic of discrimination against introverts is close to marginal leadership in the context of the need to support non-traditional leaders.
Supporting marginalized leadership is essential to enhancing an inclusive society. Cain (2012) calls for a deeper connection with the introverts in her audience. It is necessary to allow introverts to work in a comfortable environment in order to combat discrimination. The emergence of non-traditional, marginalized leaders is an example of overcoming such discrimination (Rast et al., 2018). To promote diversity, businesses need to create a clear organizational culture in which every employee is considered (Bolman & Deal, 2017). Trusting and supportive relationships need to be promoted in order to achieve effective collaboration among colleagues (Smith & Becker, 2018). It is very important to increase the value of teamwork, in which each person will be aware of their importance in the team.
In conclusion, creating an organizational environment that promotes teamwork, values each employee, and builds trust is needed for marginalized leaders to have a chance to offer their ideas. If such a leader goes their own way, this increases attention to a certain socially vulnerable group. It is necessary to establish these three components as the performance standards of any company in order to strive for a more tolerant society.
