Attention Grabber
Although scientists and policy-makers continuously pay attention pay attention to the risks of oncoming climate crisis, many people find it rather difficult to imagine the world in which environment is completely destroyed and people can no longer get access to natural resources. Unfortunately, the contemporary society has profoundly transformed many of the biological and thermodynamic processes, and we have already come to the point when many of adverse effects can become almost irreversible.
If the modern policies are not changed as quickly as possible, our children or grandchildren will be forced to grapple with a variety of environmental challenges such as the extinction of various species, declining agricultural production, food insecurity and increased migration. The most remarkable thing is that there are effective and available solutions to this problem, and I would like to speak about it in greater detail.
Common Ground
The climate crisis can directly or indirectly affect a great number of stakeholders who may not initially suspect of these influences. For instance, such changes such as global warming can completely undermine agricultural production of various countries in the long term since many crops will not be able to grow under new climate conditions (Hardy 121).
Moreover, one should keep in mind that this tendency can pose a threat to tourist industry in many regions of the world. Finally, the health of many people can be endangered. These are the main reasons why this issue should not be overlooked by scientists, policy-makers as well as entrepreneurs who have the knowledge and skills to change the situation.
Thesis
Overall, it is possible to argue that the investment into renewable energy infrastructure can prevent the on-coming climate crisis and protect the welfare of many people.
Preview
In this speech, I would like to focus on several important aspects. First, I would like to explain how exactly the problems associated with climate crisis manifest themselves and why they should not be overlooked by the community.
Much attention will be also paid to the effects of this process on agricultural production as it is one of the main economic sectors that can be endangered. Additionally, it is critical to explain why the investment in renewable energy sources can be useful for addressing this crisis. Finally, one should demonstrate how this approach can benefit different stakeholders.
Statement of the problem
It is possible to say that the signs of climate crisis have already manifested themselves. For instance, the temperature increased by approximately 3 degrees C during the last fifty years (Philander 529).
Additionally, one should pay close attention of the changing of sea level (Philander 529).
Furthermore, the audience should not overlook considerable alterations in the growth of plants, including those ones that are important for agricultural production and food security of many countries, especially those one, which are located in tropical and sub-tropical areas (Hardy 121).
Statement that the problem is significant
First, it should be noted that the signs of climate crisis can be observed throughout the world; for instance, one can speak about significant increase in temperature; thus, people cannot assume that some countries are safeguarded against the risks of this environmental process.
Secondly, researchers mention the increasing loss of biodiversity in different regions and this problem can be partly caused by the changes in climate conditions (Lovejoy 11).
Finally, much attention should be paid to the intensifying melting of glaciers that can be located in different countries; overall, these signs indicate that climate crisis has the potential to influence people throughout the world.
Harms associated with this problem
The most important harm associated with the climate crisis is the declining agricultural production because many crops are not able to adjust to the rising temperature; this argument is particularly relevant if one speaks about Africa; nevertheless, this problem will eventually affect other regions of the world. This is one of the main threats that should be taken into account.
Furthermore, it is vital to remember about the depleting water resources that are critical for the sustainability of different economies.
Statement that the status quo will not address the problem
Currently, the governments of many countries attempt to limit CO2 emissions; however, the release of greenhouse gases continues to remain very high due to the growth of industrial production; for instance, in 2010, the level of CO2 emissions reached its peak, even though policy-makers have been requiring manufacturing companies to adopt more sustainable technologies for many decades (Wong and Yuen 200). To a great extent, this evidence suggests that existing policies are not effective.
Additionally, it is important to mention that the increase of the global population will lead to the growing demand for fossil fuels, and by increasing fuel-efficiency of existing technologies, one can only postpone the effects of climate crisis, instead of averting it. So, it is vital to seek an alternative source of energy. This is one of the main points that should be considered.
Transition sentence
Thus, it is possible to say that climate crisis can prove to be a catastrophe that can profoundly influence people living in various regions of the world; more importantly, the existing policies are not sufficient for addressing this problem. So, one should search for more effective approaches to this problem.
Solution
On the whole, it is possible to say that the investments in renewable energy sources can effective solve the climate crisis and make modern communities more sustainable from both environmental and economic perspectives.
Statement of how the solution will work
Renewable energy derived from such sources as wind, geothermal heat, sunlight, or tide can be important for decreasing the use of fossil fuels that are the underlying cause of greenhouse emissions and subsequent climate changes. This is one of the main objectives that should be attained.
Thus, it is important to invest capital to promote the adoption of technologies that can make renewable energy more accessible; for example, one can speak about solar panels, hydropower, wind farms, and so forth (Rule 2014). They can be important for substituting of the conventional technologies that lead to the emission of greenhouse gasses which endanger the environment.
Moreover, researchers and engineers need to focus on the development and improvement of technologies that facilitate the use of renewable energy; this task is important for meeting the needs of the growing population; during the following decades, this goal will become even more important.
Practical aspects of the solution
The renewable energy technologies have already been adopted by many countries, and they proved to be an effective alternative to many fossil fuels; thus, one should not suppose that this approach is unrealistic or unfeasible (Strand 20).
Various sources providing renewable energy are available in different regions of the world; therefore, different communities do not have to be dependent on the supply of fuels that may become more expensive in the future.
They do not endanger environment in any way; for instance, they do not lead to the pollution of air, soil or water that impairs the health of many people.
Desirability of the solution
The investment will be justified, especially in the long term, because the society will not have to spend costs on fossil fuels (Strand 11). This is one of the main economic difficulties that modern societies try to cope with for a long time.
Furthermore, the community will be able to prevent catastrophic climate changes that can adversely affect the economic welfare and even food security of many people.
Furthermore, this strategy can be important for protecting the health of many people whose health can be impaired by the release of greenhouse gases.
Conclusion
Various human activities produce a profound effect on various natural processes, and they can lead to the catastrophic transformation of the climate in the future.
The proposed solution lays stress on the need to invest capital in the development and adoption of technologies that can generate renewable energy.
This policy can be important for averting the impending environmental crisis.
At present, we still have a chance to create a better future for the coming generation, and the use of renewable energy can be vital for achieving this goal.
