Feminism is one of the most significant movements of the 20th century as it resulted in the reconsideration of the role of women and the emergence of multiple opportunities for their personal and professional development. However, there are many perspectives on what movement can be considered feminist as there are other ideas related to the problems emerging nowadays. For instance, Naomi Wolf and Katie Roiphe’s paradigm of power feminism states that the existing mainstream approach results in the transformation of all females into victims which is unacceptable in modern society; instead of complaining of existing barriers, women should take action and advantage of their position to achieve success (Woods & Fixmer-Oraiz, 2017). This statement can also be considered a feminist one as it encourages individuals to realize themselves in various spheres regardless of existing difficulties.
There are many critiques of the paradigm outlined above stating that it is not true feminism as far as it is available only for privileged women. Regarding the fact that only women can determine if some movement can be useful for them and contribute to the improvement of their position, power feminism still remains topical and relevant in the modern world. It calls people to change their lives by engaging in various activities that will be beneficial for them and contribute to the achievement of success and a high level of independence. As far as these aspects are fundamentals of the discussed movement, Wolf and Roiphe’s idea can be considered a feminist one as it is focused on the further reconsideration of the society and increased importance of women for its further evolution (Woods & Fixmer-Oraiz, 2017). It is followed by women who want to acquire some power and show their ability to eliminate barriers limiting their development.
