The thought about the universe, our existence, and the perfectness of how everything happens always lead to the question about the presence of a supreme being. One wonders whether it is by mere coincidence that the Earth is located at the right distance from the sun so that the heat does not destroy organisms but instead gives the optimum temperature for survival. The balance between the large water bodies and land is also a puzzling concept. Although science tries to explain every phenomenon, critical thinking indicates that there is something greater than us outside there that is in control of everything happening in the universe.
I believe God exists based on the relationships humans have had with divinities or supernatural beings since ancient times. It is no secret that almost every society believes in a supreme entity. Even though not all cultures referred to the supernatural body as God, they recognize the existence of a higher power. In contemporary society, people still believe in a powerful spirit, with some individuals even coming together to praise and worship the power. Emile Durkheim, the earliest scholar of religion, called the togetherness, solidarity, and coming together of people “communitas, meaning an intense community spirit” (Kottak 493). Therefore, the realization that God exists makes people congregate to strengthen their beliefs. I believe when multitudes of people share the same conviction of the existence of God, there is a high chance it is true.
Additionally, the presence of certain powerful beings that can be controlled, invoked, or casted by particular people under exceptional circumstances confirms the presence of something greater. The domains such as demons, saints, or magic are intriguing to understand how they function and the conditions under which some individuals can tap their power (Kottak 494). Certainly, there is a supreme being responsible for giving powers to these spirits to enable their coexistence with people. Although spirits can be used for the wrong reasons, some good ones are known to help people solve problems beyond their capabilities. That means there are evil and good spirits competing in the realm beyond human understanding to destroy or preserve humanity. Ideally, the prolonged existence of human beings in this world despite the presence of evil spirits shows that the supreme being always intervenes to protect and ensure the continuity of humankind.
Lastly, the complexity of explaining dreams and how death occurs means that a powerful being is always responsible for such phenomena. It is intriguing how people can see images and hear words in their dreams, which they can remember. In addition, the idea of death is perplexing (Kottak 494). Many people or societies believe that people die when the soul leaves the body. However, the biggest question is where the soul goes or how it enters the human body. One can conclude that it is God who gives people dreams and reveal them to the respective individuals. Moreover, it is the same supreme being that creates human bodies, puts the soul, and takes it whenever he wants to, leading to death.
Overall, even with science trying to explain various occurrences, still, answers to the most critical questions are elusive. When one thoroughly examines the history of humankind and their relationship with supernatural, complex phenomena, and spiritual forces, a person realizes there is a powerful deity. God is the one in control of everything happening in this universe. Despite demons disturbing and causing torment to human beings, God usually reveals himself by saving humankind through good spirits.
