They help the nurses to prepare the patients and make arrangements in the operating room for surgery purpose. They also help the medical staffs in doing their surgery. Skills required for a certified operating room technician: Operating room technicians are also known as surgical technologists. They do the duties which are assigned to them in the hospitals. Educational qualification of the operating room technician: The person who works as an operating room technician must complete a one year cortication course along with on the job training. Nowadays an operating room technician must complete a two year degree which is conducted by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). He also has to pass an exam conducted nationally by the Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologist. Surgical course includes a training in anatomy, sterilization technical course in surgical instrumentation and also the pharmacology course. Duration of the training is 9-24 months.
