Justice is the act of protecting victims through the administration of law and enforcement of stipulated legislation by judges and magistrates, intending to punish perpetrators. Justice is very important in society as it ensures there is order in the way people interact with each other. For the social institution to work, a foundation of justice has to be laid out. Justice has stood the test of time throughout history, with the idea of fairness subjected to all forms of debates.
Justice ensures that all crimes, proven through lawful means are responded to appropriately and just punishment imposed on the perpetrators. The punishment must reflect proportionality to the crime committed and should be correct as per the social settings. Besides bringing justice to victims of crimes, justice enables the proportionate distribution of community wealth, rewards, respect, and power. This is the only way that members of society can be able to know what is expected of them regarding issues concerning the distribution of resources and wealth. The leaders especially the politicians can demonstrate justice to the people by giving them what is good for them rather than what the politicians feel is right for the people.
The authoritative command of divine powers as per the society believes is seen by the people as the best demonstration of justice. To the Christians, God’s commands are taken at heart and closely followed by believers. There is the general feeling at a personal level that what God has commanded to be right is what should be followed. These beliefs are integrated into the society’s laws and rules which forbid the citizens from engaging in some activities that might compromise the quality of justice within that society.
In society, a concept of justice, known as social justice is used as a complement to law administration where all individuals are expected to act justly in all their dealings. In this case, individuals are expected to treat each other fairly and share society resources in a way that reflects equality, without necessarily going before a court of law.
On a global level, justice seeks to bring about equality and fairness in all Nations. Rich Nation for example benefited greatly from slave labor. Justice can only be seen to be done when the rich Nations are compelled to contribute to the nation-building of the poor countries where the slaves came from. It is a known fact that we are living in a world that is not just. Some countries are so vulnerable to diseases and hunger while others have more than enough food and medicines. Justice on the global level is the only tool that can prevail in the redistribution of global resources to all people.
Justice is one of the single most values that guarantee fairness in society. It ensures that resources in society are distributed and shared equally among all the people. It spells out what is expected of the society members, what one is entitled to give and receive in terms of respect, resources, and even power. For there to be a strong society, justice must be part of the pillars that support it.
