Leaders on The Big Picture (Mission)
Leaders in the Army should take the mission seriously and understand its high priority. The Army mission implies that soldiers fight for their country and its interests. Besides, leaders should realize that there and other soldiers’ lives are at high risk. They should consider the mission as a high priority, simultaneously avoiding unintended consequences for people’s lives.
What is Best for Mission
Leaders should understand that there are difficult decisions they must take to accomplish the mission. They should rely on the Army Ethic, which states that it is vital to follow the mission with great respect for the people. According to the Army standards, a decision is right when it is ethical, effective, and efficient. A leader should ensure these principles to decide what is best for the Greater Good.
Leaders, Their Followers, and Ethics
Leaders and their followers should understand that some of them might suffer to achieve the Army mission. They should have the courage to accept that they might lose their lives, as well as their followers. It is ethically justified, as people who belong to the Army take the risk associated with the profession. However, leaders are obliged to avoid soldiers’ and Army civilians’ suffering as much as possible in a given context. They need to think about their decisions in terms of their ethics, effectiveness, and efficacy. If leaders follow the principles, their actions are right for the Army and its values.
