Big Five Personality Traits and Core Self-Evaluation Elements that Characterize Schultz
A leader’s personality traits, coupled with their self-evaluation elements, can impact the performance of a business. For example, in this case, Schultz displays signs of conscientiousness. A conscientious leader is detail-oriented, organized, careful about their actions, and thoughtful. Such leader can control their impulses; for instance, Schultz is conscientious because he is thoughtful and detail-oriented about his vision for Starbucks. When he noticed that the consumers needed a working space, he made changes to accommodate the client’s needs by creating a conducive environment and making the menu favorable to their needs.
Schultz can be considered an agreeable leader as he was sensitive to the client’s needs and helpful and cooperative. Schultz was able to look at the business from the client’s point of view and considered the client’s needs when expanding Starbucks across the globe. Being agreeable also makes one likable since such leaders seek and drive agreement (Dewi & Ansyah, 2018). This may infuse the workplace with a good vibe and a feeling of purposeful participation.
Schultz was a person who would embrace new experiences and encounters in life. One’s desire to explore new things and participate in creative and intellectual pursuits is openness to experience. The capacity to “think outside of the box” is a critical component of business leadership. Schultz was able to take the business to a new level because he was open to experiencing new ideas and demographics. Self-evaluation refers to a person’s ability to reflect on their lives and make honest judgments. The ability to self-evaluate reflects in one’s work in terms of their ability to deal with stressful situations, willingness to learn, and ability to lead and inspire a team. One of the elements of core self-evaluation seen in Schultz’s case is self-esteem (Dewi & Ansyah, 2018). Schutz had a positive outlook on the future of the business and was not afraid to make his ambitions known.
Evidence That Schultz Has A High Level Of Achievement Motivation
The energization and direction of competence-relevant behavior, or why and how individuals strive toward competence and away from incompetence, may be characterized as accomplishment motivation. Schultz was highly motivated by his ambition to expand the Starbucks business worldwide and develop a brand known for its quality coffee and consumer-oriented services. Schultz had an achievement goal, and he worked towards it by buying the company and working toward the expansion as he envisioned. Achievement motivation is essential in business because it helps build a solid, goal-oriented team. When the organization’s leader is motivated, it encourages the team to work harder and be goal-oriented (Dewi & Ansyah, 2018). Through Schultz’s motivation, Starbucks has grown into an internationally known brand.
How Schultz’s Social Skills Contributed To The Success Of Starbucks
Social skills are imperative in enabling leaders to gain effective leadership and management in their organizations. Managers must learn these talents to better accommodate their team, from picking up on social signs to empathizing with their employees. Schultz’s ability to read the room helped improve Starbucks’ service provision to the clients. He recognized that clients needed more than just coffee on the menus (Dewi & Ansyah, 2018). He also changed the opening and closing hours to cater to the market needs.
Another social skill that may have been beneficial to the growth of Starbucks is the ability to collaborate. Collaborating in the workplace helps firms quickly complete essential projects and fulfill critical deadlines. When numerous people are working on a project, the work may be split up evenly and effectively among those with the time and skills to undertake specific duties. Generally, collaboration avoids project delays as unison makes the project operations go faster.
