Introduction
Assessing the relevance of the methods for strengthening leadership in healthcare management has allowed me to find useful and effective methods for analyzing my personal qualities. Taking appropriate tests and identifying my personal inclinations have helped me identify my strengths and highlight the competencies that I can develop to enhance my leadership skills. Managing healthcare staff requires adherence to ethical, professional, communication, and other principles, and due to the work done, I can see that I have the prospects to strengthen and develop the necessary skills in myself.
Personal Leadership Assessments
A series of tests has allowed me to form a vision of myself as a potential leader. Ledlow and Coppola (2014) propose to determine the propensity for a particular leadership style based on the analysis of brain hemisphere dominance. In accordance with this analysis, I can note that I use both hemispheres, but the right one dominates because I perceive visual images better, thereby forming clear strategic decisions. The Enneagram test, which Ledlow and Coppola (2014) cite as another analytical tool, has allowed me to identify my leadership type as one that fits the construct of higher goals. The ability to inspire others helps me achieve my goals and assist my colleagues in this. Regarding the Emotional Intelligence test offered by Ledlow and Coppola (2014), I can say that I have valuable social awareness skills. While trusting me, people see me as a gracious and authentic person, which is a plus for me.
Leadership Type
In terms of matching a particular leadership style, based on the existing theoretical background, I can see that my type is most consistent with transformational leadership. As Ledlow and Coppola (2014) argue, this style is based on individualized consideration and inspirational motivation. In other words, practical methods of support are complemented by symbolic approaches to inspire colleagues. Based on the tests I have performed, I can note that I am often a role model for others, and my instincts are judged as wise by others. In an effort to create optimal conditions for work, I like to develop not only myself but also others, and I feel satisfaction in stimulating people to transform. Therefore, I can describe myself as a transformational leader with a set of potentially useful skills.
Competencies and Leadership Development
Based on the assessment of my personal leadership competencies, I can state that I have the appropriate knowledge in the areas of professional communication, motivation, control flexibility, and maintaining a favorable working environment. All of these skills, described by Ledlow and Coppola (2014), help me serve as a role model for colleagues and encourage positive change, which is consistent with a transformational leadership style. To create and manage a team of healthcare employees in the future, I should focus on honing such skills as adherence to regulatory standards and human resource control. They are crucial for the competent management of various aspects of the workflow.
Conclusion
The tests and assessments that I have conducted allow me to highlight the relevant leadership skills and competencies that I possess and that I need to develop. My high social awareness skills, right-brain dominance, and pursuit of higher goals help me be a role model for my colleagues. The transformational leadership style I adopt allows me to motivate others successfully and be flexible. In terms of competencies, I am well aware of the principles of communication, motivation, control flexibility, and maintaining a favorable working environment. In the future, adherence to regulatory standards and human resource control are competencies that I need to focus on to manage a team of healthcare workers.
