Core values are described as a set of fundamental beliefs or ideals that are the basis of motivation for individuals and which guide them through decision-making. For instance, my core values comprise honesty, kindness, integrity, empathy, and learning. Honesty is my most valuable core value, and I believe that it affects relationships and people’s feelings about themselves and their jobs (Beer, 2020). In my life, it is defined in various ways, for example, “having the courage to face the truth”. Sometimes telling the truth might have adverse consequences; however, we have the responsibility to face and accept it. Since most interactions with patients take place in a hospital setting, nurses need to cultivate a robust therapeutic nurse-patient relationship, and developing it requires honesty.

Kindness is defined as the act of being generous, friendly, and considerate (Allen et al., 2016). People need to be alert on the well-being of others to be able to notice their suffering. Kindness is not quantified in terms of the amount of time or money spent, instead it is centered on the minute things, such as a smile. As a nurse, it is crucial to get acquainted with patients and treat them as friends or family members. On the other hand, integrity is defined as the act of performing a task or function even if no one is watching. In a professional setting, it refers to demonstrating an individual’s core values in practice. In the nursing spectrum, I believe integrity to be a cornerstone virtue. With the short-staffing issue facing most healthcare centers and mandatory overtime, nurses are required to hold high integrity to withstand all challenges brought about by the relatively high nurse-to-patient ratio (Kang et al., 2017). Healthcare providers are required to show integrity as the health outcome of many patients is centered on their commitment.

Empathy is defined as the ability to recognize and understand the situation of people by imagining oneself in a similar position. It is a typical situation when nurses get consumed in their functional responsibilities and social diversions and end up not recognizing the emotional suffering of patients (Stuart et al., 2020). Empathy is the ability to open doors that encourage patients to share the burden of their fears and anxieties. This gives patients the determination to face an uncertain future. Lastly, learning is a significant core value for nurses, as it enables them to remain current in the evolving healthcare environment (Poorchangizi et al., 2019). Every day, new diseases and new disease management techniques are being discovered. Therefore, to keep up-to-date, I always review and read journals on various nursing publication sites.

Personal Mission/Vision Statement

My personal mission statement is, “To deliver the best healthcare possible by being a human being first before being a nurse.” Over the course of my nursing experience, I have come to realize that aside from my core nursing duties, such as administering medication and treatment, and monitoring their progress, I am also required to attend to the patients’ psychological well-being. The latter can only be achieved by embracing the four core values: honesty, kindness, integrity, and empathy.

Analysis of Cliftonstrengths Assessment Summarizing the Results of Your Profile

According to the Cliftonstrengths assessment, my top five themes comprise achiever, focus, responsibility, learner, and relator. As a relator, I enjoy cultivating close relationships with coworkers and working together to achieve a common goal. In a hospital setting, helping patients can only be achieved by establishing a robust nurse-patient relationship. Teamwork between nurses of different shifts is also essential. On the other hand, when it comes to focus, I always try to follow through my goals and objectives in their set of priorities. Moreover, I am a learner as I like keeping current with evolving illnesses and disease management techniques to help deliver the best quality care. When it comes to being an achiever, I have a strong innate desire to fulfill my tasks. Finally, I am a responsible individual, as I perform my nursing duties with the highest regard.

Description of Two Key Behaviors That You Wish To Strengthen

There are specific behaviors that I still wish to strengthen, for instance, individualization and strategic. I always strive to perform any tasks perfectly, and this will require the best input of every team member associated with the task. Therefore, I sometimes tend to generalize the weaknesses of people based on their work quality and result in not giving them specific tasks, even though they might perform well. Moreover, I perceive strategy to be a weakness, as sometimes I tend to steadfastly align every action with a particular outcome.

Development Plan of How to Improve Your Weaknesses

I intend on improving my individualization weakness by practicing to be unceasingly neutral. This would be facilitated by trying to look at people’s weaknesses with a fresh set of eyes, as they might be continuously correcting their flaws. On the other hand, to improve my strategic character, I intend on identifying a colleague who is proficient in such character, consult and learn from them.

How You Plan To Achieve Your Personal Vision

Being an achiever, relator, focused, and responsible individual is essential to delivering my personal vision. These characters are significant to both my professional and personal spheres as an individual. By embracing them, I would be a better individual as I would resonate with the patients’ minds and souls and deliver the best possible care. However, it is essential to note that my lack of individualization might conflict with my relator character. Therefore, it is essential to work on this weakness to attain my personal vision.
