There are many languages spoken all around the world, some of the most popular ones are English, Italian, German, Chinese. One of the most popular languages is Spanish. Spanish provides a very good scope of a marketing job; a person who knows Spanish can easily interact with the other people and become a more marketable employee. This paper will throw light upon the prospects of a person who is well versed with Spanish. The current trend of the language will also be discussed in the paper to have a clear understanding of the situation.

Current Trend Followed in the Schools

“Toronto teens born in the Caribbean, Central or South America and east Africa is twice as likely to drop out of school as their peers from China, Korea and Japan, new research shows. The first study to track Toronto high school students through Ontario’s new four-year curriculum also show that students who speak Spanish, Portuguese or Somali are at higher risk than kids who speak any other of the city’s most common languages. And they are more likely to fail Grade 9 math and flunk the Grade 10 literacy test, and are less likely to apply to College or University. (American Renaissance, 2009).

This is not good news for the students who want to be good at marketing in the future. To market a product successfully, one must have the grasp of a foreign language, for instance if there is product launched in Spain and if a person who does not know Spanish is given the responsibility of launching that particular product then the results would surely not be as per planned simply because one must behave like a Roman when in Rome. On the contrary if a person who has a good grasp of the Spanish language is given the same responsibility, he is ought to outperform the person who does not know Spanish but the recent trend in the schools is highly disappointing and it is high time that something is done about it. Marketability and foreign languages go hand in hand.

Difficulties in Learning the Language

The background of the student matters a lot because a foreign language is learnt right from the school days, if a student belongs to Mexico or Portugal and the school authorities have Spanish as a compulsory language in the curriculum, the student would be very disappointed because his background is not apt in learning the language and moreover if he fails to show any improvement, the disappointment will reach a different level and the student will surely think of dropping out.

All these things matter a lot to the students; the pressure these days on days in huge and coping with that pressure is not that easy. Spanish should be taught in the schools but it shouldn’t be made compulsory because the students in a school will surely be from diverse backgrounds and some other language other than Spanish can be introduced in order to make the future of the children bright. In order to market oneself, the knowledge of a foreign language is a must and Spanish is one of the most widely spoken and popular language hence it becomes inevitable to learn Spanish in order to achieve desirable results in the context of marketing.

“The purpose of learning Spanish is to communicate with the people who speak the language and to understand their cultures.” (Kuala High school, 5 February 2009). Though it can be argued that learning Spanish has many advantages but overall its effects on students is very negative, especially for the students from diverse backgrounds. Spanish is very difficult to learn and the pronunciation is very complicated, the same makes the language very tough to learn.

Learning a foreign language is not a walk in the park, it requires a lot of dedication and persistence. A person who has learned the language can work in Spain and can market any product with ease. Communication is the most important factor and without communication there cannot be any results and this becomes even more prominent in the field of marketing, a person who fails to learn the language can never communicate with the other people who only know Spanish and as a result of which the marketability of that person becomes a big question mark.

Conclusion

The paper time and again highlights the importance of learning Spanish and its direct relation with the marketability of a person. Communication is the most important aspect these days and it becomes even more important when it comes to marketability of a person. Hence it is very fair to say that a person who knows Spanish will always have an edge over a person who does not know Spanish and this applies in many other fields too not only in the field of Marketability, so it becomes highly important to learn the language in order to achieve the desired results for any person thinking about marketability.
