Introduction
A nurse leader has various roles in healthcare facilities. In this case, the nurse leader must take the role of human resource management and explain the position and roles for potential candidates. The nurse leader will provide a detailed account of the organizational structure of the company; how the organizational structure influences daily operations; how the organizational structure affects its ability to function efficiently; and finally, how the human resource department affects the organizational structure and function of the company.
The organization used in this study is Lee Memorial Health Systems, Fort Myers, FL (www.leememorial.org) while the job available for the candidate is a Registered Nurse / General Med.
The organizational structure of Lee Memorial Health System
The organizational structure shows how tasks and roles are distributed in an organization. In addition, it also indicates allocation, coordination, and supervision activities as conducted by managers (Robbins & Judge, 2007). Organizational structure is therefore necessary for guiding newly hired employees in an organization. In this case, the Registered Nurse / General Med will use the organizational structure of Lee Memorial Health System to understand his or her roles.
Lee’s organizational structure consists of the board of directors, senior leadership, and medical staff (Lee Memorial Health System, 2015). This is a functional organizational structure that depends on a multidisciplinary team to deliver care services. Most departments are run by Chief Administrative Officers.
How the organizational structure influences daily operations
Lee’s organizational structure influences daily operations by striving to ensure that care delivery is precise. There are several Chief Administrative Officers to run different departments or units. In this regard, objectives are clearly defined with specific, narrow roles.
The hospital environment must strive for efficiency to reduce errors and save lives. Hence, healthcare must be delivered precisely and correctly as intended.
This structure ensures that each department performs its specific roles. The administrators and medical staff ensure that the system runs as planned, reports are generated and sent to the right senior executives.
How the organizational structure affects its ability to function efficiently
Lee’s organizational structure strives to ensure efficient and systematic operations. The structure is intentional to support the current size, departments, and operation procedures. It encourages specialization in different departments.
It has offered a guideline to ensure relationships between linkage and departments. The current structure aims to ensure that all results are achieved through teamwork. On this note, Lee’s organizational structure supports coordination between various departments to deliver quality healthcare.
How the human resource department affects the organizational structure and function of the company
The HR department is responsible for managing employees and their related concerns. In this case, the nurse leader acts in the capacity of human resource manager to select the best candidate for the position of Registered Nurse / General Med. The candidate must only be posted at a specific branch, Gulf Coast Medical Center to ensure that nurse distribution in the organization is optimal.
In this regard, the structure developed for Lee strives to maximize performance and fully harness employee performance and aims for the attainment of organizational objectives (Ahmad & Schroeder, 2002). Therefore, employees must have the right knowledge and skills for the hospital to be successful. As the HR department aims for efficiency, it must also ensure that the structure is cost-effective and can improve performance for Lee.
Conclusion
HR managers have critical roles to play in an organization. They continue to support organizations by recruiting and selecting the best employees for available positions. It is expected that the HR department must ensure that new employees understand the current organizational structure to comprehend their roles too. It would ensure that such employees understand their positions and expected contributions from the organizational structure. The structure is designed to enhance efficiency and improve performance while reducing costs. The structure must ensure that employees can perform to their best abilities because the HR department is believed to have maximized opportunities for talent acquisition, employee distribution, retention, and harnessing of their full potential.
