Introduction

As a human resource manager, I am faced with a lot of management challenges. These challenges include resource mismanagement, time mismanagement, and staff management among others. As the manager, I have to tackle each challenge skillfully to avoid negative effects to the company. Proper management is the key to success in any company. Management of available resources and time has positive results. This is important to ensure achievement of company’s mission and vision. This paper will look at the challenges facing the management such as resource mismanagement and time mismanagement. It will also focus on the causes of these challenges and how to tackle them.

Mismanagement of Resources

Mismanagement of resources is one big problem that I have been facing in my company. In every business there is need to manage the available resources to avoid incurring losses or collapse of the business. Employees tend to mismanage the resources allocated to them for different tasks that will not benefit the company. They tend to use the money for their gains leaving the company needs unattended. This may lead to a company losing its resources. As the manager, to avoid and eliminate this problem in the company I have emphasized the need to always account for the resources allocated to employees.

Use of receipts and invoices for all transactions made is crucial to ensure money is not lost. I also suggest buying of an accounting soft ware that will give reports on how money has been spent. All employees should be trained on the importance of accounting for cash flow in the company (Ireland, Hitt and Hoskisson, 2005). Employees have talents that are important resource in the company. Management of talents in a company is also important for the firm’s success. It is the responsibility of the manager to ensure the talents in a company are well managed and used maximally for the good of the company.

This ensures specialization of employees to the duties they are well at and this result in high level productivity. All employees have different talents, which are important for the success of the company. Specialization and division of labor ensures that the talents are well managed for they are important resources in a company. Mismanagement of this talents lead to lack of high quality services and products thus a company does not succeed in a competitive market (Ireland, Hitt and Hoskisson, 2005).

Time Mismanagement

Time management is an important aspect for a company to succeed. This has been a problem in my company where employees do not commit themselves during the working hours and so many tasks are kept pending. For a company to succeed, time is an important resource that needs to be managed properly. Time should be used properly for productivity. It is one of the resources that once lost cannot be recovered thus the company will be lagging behind. Employees have been involving themselves to other income generating activities of their own during the working hours of the company.

Employees should be able to account for the working hours. What they have achieved during the working hours should be clearly illustrated (Ireland, Hitt and Hoskisson, 2005). Also their salaries should be adjusted to their satisfaction so that they can commit themselves to productive work. Also employees should be frequently trained on time management to ensure they clearly understand time as an important resource. Employees should keep track of how they are spending their time and changes they are making. Keeping record of the day’s achievements is a good guide to ensure time was used productively. With good time management it will be easy to achieve the company’s mission and vision (Ireland, Hitt and Hoskisson, 2005).
