Measurable learning outcomes can be described as the actual effects and results achieved during the process of learning. Among the necessary characteristics of learning outcomes are the received knowledge; acquired attitudes and values; and perceived moral categories. By the end of any educational course, the teacher is to expect that his or her students will be able to demonstrate the results of their work; thus, there should be clearly described results which the teacher is expecting one’s students to achieve. The description of these results should be unambiguous. In the following paper, I have my purpose to state some measurable learning outcomes for the study unit of science for students of Grade 5.

The following learning outcomes can be expected for the Grade 5 students of science course:

  1. The students will learn about forces and motion. They will label varied types of forces existing in the universe. They will formulate Newton’s law of motion. The students will be able to select the correct definition of motion, force, and related phenomena on a test with multiple choices of variants of answers.
  2. The students will acquire knowledge on magnetism and its connection to electricity using organizing and testing electrical circuit units. The students will be provided with wires, bulbs for construction circuits, and batteries. They will observe the pathway of electricity. The students will have to be able to select the correct definition of magnetism, electrical circuits, electricity, and the electrical pathway on a test with multiple choices of variants of answers.
  3. The students will learn about speed and related data. They will reproduce major laws on speed. The students will indicate formulas for speed counting necessary for problem-solving. The students will be able to identify and select the correct definition of speed, distance, time, and related phenomena on a test with multiple choices of variants of answers.
  4. The students will study a periodical table for elements. They will list the elements belonging to varied groups in the table. The students will be able to identify varied elements judging on their description including their molecular mass and periodical number on a test with multiple choices of variants of answers.
  5. The students will learn how to define the properties of solid and liquid substances using conducting chemical reactions. The students will have to be able to select the correct variants for respective properties of varied substances on a test with multiple choices of variants of answers.
  6. The student will learn how to identify and analyze varied elements of weather including types of wind, clouds, atmospheric pressure, and temperature balance. Given lists of weather elements and provided with illustrations, the students will select correct variants for each type of cloud, wind, and the other elements related to weather. The students will have to be able to select the correct variants for varied weather elements on a test with multiple choices of variants of answers.

In conclusion, after any studying course, the students must demonstrate certain positive changes in their performances. Thus, measurable learning outcomes are to be created to distinguish these changes. Measurable learning outcomes can be understood as the actual effects and results accomplished during the process of learning. The newly received knowledge; acquired attitudes and values; and perceived moral categories may be related to the most important learning outcomes.
