The hospitals that earned Magnet recognition demonstrate better results regarding patients’ satisfaction, and Mercy Medical Center is no exception to the rule. The people who use services of such medical facilities are more likely to recommend them to others (McCaughey et al., 2020). For Mercy Medical Center, the Magnet recognition program indicates that “years of dedication and hard work” led to excellent results regarding patients’ feedback (Collins, 2016). In turn, it initiates the change in the personnel’s attitude towards patient-oriented care and promotes awareness of its importance. In this way, Magnet status leads to the increase in the facility’s attractiveness for people and the necessity for its personnel to maintain the existing quality of services through “delivering innovative and compassionate care” (Collins, 2016). In this situation, the hospital’s officials become concerned about remaining a Magnet facility by promoting patient satisfaction. Therefore, the experience of Mercy Medical Center proves the dependence of a hospital’s status on the successful implementation of a patient-centered healthcare model. In this way, the current policies of a medical facility and its change from earning Magnet recognition is an interdependent process.
Another positive outcome of Magnet status is the sustainable development of such hospitals as Mercy Medical Center resulting from a lower turnover of registered nurses and a higher level of satisfaction from work among them. This fact is explained by a better work environment provided by these health institutions (Park et al., 2016). Indeed, the results of Mercy Medical Center evidence that the focus of the hospital authority on the work conditions for nurses produces good results (Collins, 2016). The medical facilities that earn Magnet recognition are the ones with effective nursing policies as this criterion is the most critical when it comes to evaluating their activities (Collins, 2016). It evidences that the nurses are satisfied with their work, and the current nursing excellence priority of the medical institution enhances its sustainable development. The change resulting from the achievement of such a high status for Mercy Medical Center is in the necessity to keep a lower turnover of nurses as well as their level of satisfaction. Thus, it is impossible to overestimate the role of nurses in the healthcare facility in earning Magnet recognition.
