In addition to working in a host department, the interns are exposed to a structured orientation program that will give exposure to the organizational philosophy and culture (Facebook n.d.).
It is reported that this program will encourage the participants to network with MGM Resort leaders. The program also allows the participants to take part in personal and career development course offered by the MGM Resorts University (Facebook n.d.).
The second internship program is the MGM International Resorts Management Associate Program (MAP). This program provides hands on learning experience that targets recent college graduates (Facebook n.d.). The candidates for this program are required to fulfill both academic goals and have attained required work experience required to meet management demands (Facebook n.d.).
The main goal behind the design of the program is to meet the future leadership needs within the organization. In addition to that the program aims to provide unparalleled experience to candidates in terms of training and mentoring (Facebook n.d.).
Benefits
Among the benefits that potential candidates stand to benefit from an internship with this organization can be traced to the fact that the organization’s establishments are among the most famous in the world (Facebook par. 1).
The organization’s 24 destinations have developed renown within the industry with regard to quality, entertainment and exceptional customer service. This environment suggests that students who undertake internship within the organization stand to benefit a great deal in a variety of ways.
The first major benefit comes from the increased problem solving skills that are likely to be gained. It has been reported that the MGM International Resorts have a very good reputation in the hospitality industry and have several renowned establishments (MGM International Resorts par. 1).
This is crucial when it comes to internship as one of the major goals of an internship program is to improve on problem solving capability of the candidate (Carr & Fulmer 2004). The internship will immerse the student into a range of activities that focus n problem solving strategies.
Based on these experiences the intern gains hands on knowledge on how to handle various situations in the workplace (Carr & Fulmer 2004). Given the reputation of this organization it is very likely the intern will benefit immensely in relation to problem solving skills.
It has been mentioned that the MAP program offered within the MGM International Resorts targets candidates and provides skills needed to meet the demands of management (Facebook n.d.). It has been reported that one major goal of internships is an opportunity to work with other stakeholders within a prospective field (Carr & Fulmer 2004).
Through this internship opportunity within a well established organization it is clear that the candidate will receive adequate evaluation in terms of ability to cope with demands of various stakeholders.
This is based on the fact that in an organization of this size work will require coordination and communication between various departments. The size of this organization thus provides significant benefit to candidates enlisted in internship programs.
Another significant benefit that interns at MGM International Resorts stand to gain can be traced to their future based on the experience. In light of the inclusion of the idea for internship into college education, it has been reported that this presents a major opportunity for students to build a portfolio while learning (Horne 2008).
It has been suggested that given the loophole that college creates, candidates can make attempts to have several internships prior to completion of their four year college programs. Based on this an opportunity at an establishment such as MGM International Resorts will go a long way in opening other doors in relation to the candidate’s future choices.
This is because a good internship report will open a large number of post graduate and job opportunities. Since the goal of college is to begin work in a meaningful manner internship with MGM International Resorts will serve to help the candidate’s future job prospects.
