There are two different types of motivation, including biological and psychological. Biological motivation is the basis for all human activities as it constitutes primary needs (Deckers, 2022). My desire for education is guided by the need to earn money for food, housing, clothes, and other aspects necessary for survival in the modern world. Additionally, a good position in society will help me to attract a partner in the future, which is an important biological need for individuals as well.

Psychological motivation also leads me in my educational pursuit as it is based on the needs for affiliation, power, achievement, as well as curiosity and exploration. The need for affiliation means that a person strives to be integrated into society and interact with other people. Therefore, I am motivated to be a part of the community in the present as a student and in the future as a professional. The need for power can be manifested in the desire to have a reputation among other members of society. I study to do meaningful work in the future and be of value to the community as an individual. This will help me build my reputation and have an influence on people through interactions with them. The need for achievement is the most significant as a human being. Education can help me to work hard and gain rewards in the future according to my merits. Finally, the need for curiosity and exploration plays an important role in my pursuit as I really enjoy learning new things as part of the educational process and improving my skills.

Values and purpose can largely inform one’s motivational experience providing the framework for choosing the activities. In particular, profession, vocation, passion, and mission constitute a purpose. Those values determine an individual’s desire to contribute to the world or receive what the world gives. Values and purpose can be the basis of motivation as they contain the meaning of every activity. A person chooses the areas which are the most important for them in forming their values. Those aspects then constitute the purpose which has a definite outcome and set of steps to be completed. In order to complete the purpose based on personal values, an individual conducts the activities that move them to the ultimate goal. Thus, they are motivated to work to achieve the purpose that was defined.
