Summary
For the discussion, I chose Mozart, Marriage of Figaro, overture. Initially, the overture was expected to be in three movements according to the traditional Italian form. It supposed to be slow, framed by two fast ones; however, Mozart created a lively piece. The fast and lively pace is harmonious and sonorous, allowing each instrument to be felt. The presto tempo, D major, creates the mood of a frantic day and the joy of life inherent in a wedding (Mozart, 1786). The central part has trio: distant and rustling sounds with strings; the marching rhythm of the fortepiano and brass fanfares; finally, the entire orchestra opens the action of the piece. The overture motif is built on contrasting flashes of chords with alternating descending elements with the piano. The repeated repetitions of individual elements create an indomitable triumph haunted by joyous fanfares, trumpet, cello and violin.
In addition to its basic cheerfulness, the overture warns the listener of the anxiety of the holiday. The minor second creates the growing tension, followed by an Italian motif of affirmation of anxiety and then calm again with the oboe. The presence of a minor harmony makes one feel anxious about whether the celebration will take place (Mozart, 1786). However, the violins help to alleviate this feeling and bring the listener into joyful anticipation at the conclusion. As a result, the overture makes it possible to feel the holiday despite the background anxiety. The Italian motifs and plumes create a joyful mood and pleasant anticipation.
Human Relations
Employees can resort to preventive plans to contain themselves to contain emotions in the face of ineffective or substandard practices. First of all, it is necessary to pay attention to creating a safe space in which it will be possible to eliminate negative factors of the environment; safety will allow one to be confident and calm in a critical situation. Secondly, it is necessary to outline the principles of hierarchy to protect one’s position from the action of ineffective communication. Power can be a problem, and it is necessary to understand at what point authority is lacking. Thirdly, cultural and linguistic diversity should be considered to be calm and judicious about opposing views. In leadership practice, restraining emotions can be achieved through positive psychology, which manifests in separating negative experiences from rational facts.
Self-disclosure represents one’s emotions for the benefit of communication and interpersonal relationships. Self-disclosure promotes a two-way exchange of personal information, which makes the practice of communication safe and honest. It avoids misunderstandings because the baseline characteristics of each employee are accessible. Self-disclosure promotes workplace culture and mutual trust (Ho et al., 2018). According to Johari’s window theory, trust allows for successful communication, and self-disclosure creates a platform where it becomes available to everyone involved. Self-disclosure provides an opportunity to manage stress because it reduces the emotional burden and allows you to be freer to make decisions. With a conscious approach to one’s work, one can achieve competent communication with one’s colleagues and thus make one’s work compelling.
