And, the winners are Dr. Adam from the males and Mrs.Vilja from females! On Thursday, November 27th, 2013, the National Day of the United Arab Emirates was celebrated at Zayed University. The holiday was organized in the form of the teachers’ competition. There were several parts in the contest. The participants had to memorize something in Arabic and to declare to the audience; they had to prove their awareness of the culture, politics, and history of the country. In the end, everyone said who was going to bear the palm, in their own opinion.
How It Was: the Supplemental Information
The idea behind the celebration was to choose the teacher best knowledgeable about the culture and traditions of the United Arab Emirates. The auditorium was full of students and teachers.
The atmosphere was very friendly, and it seemed that everyone felt relaxed, even the contest participants. There were some refreshments for the teachers. The students were allowed bringing their refreshments. Everyone had to wear traditional clothes. The females were beautiful, and it was really hard to recognize the male teachers if they were your teachers or other locals in the auditorium.
The competition was organized in three parts. Also, the males and females competed separately with the participants from their gender groups. The event started at 1:30 Pm with the National Anthem of the United Arab Emirates when all the participants were invited to the stage. During the first part, the teachers had to declare something in Arabic. There were several options to do so. Some chose to memorize the poem from the Arabic literature, others to declare the sentences from Holy Qaran.
There was even an option to sing a song. It seemed like the teachers trained a lot to declare the sentences in Arabic as the majority of them managed to do so without an obvious accent. The pronunciation was really good. It was interesting for the students to listen to them. However, the contest was not finished after the first part. It was only the beginning. After the presentation of the language skills, the participants had to prove their knowledge in the history, politics, and economy of the state.
Each participant was asked the questions to answer. For example, one of the teachers had to say who the Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates was. It seemed like the teachers had been given a chance to feel like the students.
Finally, each of the participants had to express their own opinion on who would be the winner. The contest ended with the announcement of the winners. They were awarded the voucher for eating at the traditional restraint in Abu Dhabi. Overall, the contest was very interesting. Everyone enjoyed the time spent there.
It was a great opportunity to communicate with each other in an informal environment. The teachers seemed to be very enthusiastic about their tasks, and the students seemed to be interested in the event up to the last minute. They supported their teachers. Finally, it should be said that the event was organized at the highest level.
