Natural disasters are becoming challenging and tragic events for humanity. They become more severe and dangerous because people cannot accurately predict their appearance, and often, tragedies such as floods or earthquakes happen unexpectedly. This leads to the fact that there is a large number of victims who need medical treatment and care. Hence, during the earthquake in Haiti, the nursing intervention was of particular importance, which could result in the best outcomes and a significant reduction in the number of deaths.
Further, to provide the most effective assistance to the disaster victims, medical specialists and the government should work together. This concerns not only the immediate occurrence of the disaster but also preparatory educational measures. It is proven that immunization and health education on proper hygiene can have a significant positive value when implemented preventive measures by nurses (Shapland, 2021). Regarding secondary intervention, healthcare professionals should clearly understand how to provide first aid and treat wounds and injuries of various types. Tertial prevention is also an essential, necessary measure for awareness, as they “are generally rehabilitation effort” (Kisling & Das, 2020, para. 5). It has value, as it helps in improving the well-being of the affected population.
In conclusion, the development of preventive interventions is a critical component of the healthcare system. This is especially important in those regions where there is an increased risk of natural disasters that can harm a large number of people. Thus, primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention efforts can become the most effective in such cases. Agencies such as the Red Cross can provide significant assistance in managing the results of disasters and diseases.
