Summary
Reflection is one of the most effective ways to grow an individual not only as a professional but also, most importantly, as a person. Moreover, the main benefit of paying attention to personal experience is improving the ability to adapt to changes that occur for both external and internal reasons. Consequently, this work aims to reflect on the experience of passing the Nursing 508 courses from the side of achieving educational goals, professional competencies, and becoming a person and a Christian. It is worth adding that I believe that carrying out such work becomes a productive tool for gaining self-awareness. This is because, in this way, people are given the opportunity to understand all their achievements and problems that they may have during training.
Course Objectives and Educational Goals
To begin with, it is worth mentioning that I took Nursing class 508: Theoretical & Ethical Foundations. It evoked a strong interest, which allowed me to remain involved from the very beginning of training and gain a desire to study further. I was particularly attracted by the ethical aspect, as I believe that despite the high coverage of the problem of ethical norms and fundamentals in medicine, this issue is still critical and relevant. Furthermore, there is a need to spread awareness about this topic, which will help to make changes both from within healthcare organizations and to influence from the outside.
One of my educational aims was to acquire knowledge about the nursing profession and what it is based on. To be honest, at first, I experienced difficulties with passing the class since nursing implies knowledge of a large amount of information that concerns not only methods and principles of treatment, but also compliance with moral and ethical principles. This is because in this field, there are constant and close interactions with people whose care is the main priority. Moreover, the class helped me to understand the importance of continuous improvements in the nursing profession, which are necessary to become the best specialist.
Professional Competencies
Teamwork
One of the main competencies that I gained during my training is the ability to work effectively in a team. Previously, this aspect was challenging for me since I did not understand how communication and the course of actions in the group should be configured. Now I know that this skill is one of the main ones in the profession of a nurse, as it can ensure the high quality of health services provided.
Patient-Centered Approach
This competence was already known to me before the start of the course, but it was here that I gained a complete understanding of it. Hence, I realized the importance of observing moral norms when working with patients. Additionally, I understood how to adjust my actions in order to primarily meet the needs of clients and provide them with the best services.
Growth as a Student and Christian
In the end, I can undoubtedly say that the Nursing 508 course helped me grow as a person. I began to notice that the knowledge gained during training commenced to be broadcast throughout my life, which helped me grow and gain a relatively high level of self-awareness. In addition, the class helped me grow as a Christian, as I began to fully realize the value of the covenant of the Almighty to help people (Philippians 2:4). Furthermore, the Christian faith emphasizes the importance of caring and loving, which I see as essential aspects of a nurse’s work (John 15:12). Therefore, the class assisted me in gaining a clear understanding of what I want from life and in which direction I should move.
