The influence of scholarship on the career path in nursing
Scholarship plays a key role in contributing to the nurse’s development as a researcher. It is possible to note that scholarship and the associated ability to integrate scholar visions, knowledge, and experience are important to influence the career path of a nurse as a researcher who can apply the theoretical concepts and tested assumptions to practice (Utley, 2010).
In this context, the education and the developed skills in research influenced my progress in the Capstone Project directly as I was able to organize the work on the project effectively, search relevant resources, and use my skills in synthesizing the literature and analyzing the data. This approach allowed developing research-based strategies for being implemented in the selected facility. Thus, I was able to refer to theoretical knowledge while implementing the practical interventions in the target organization to address the identified problem.
This experience and my education can be discussed as good backgrounds for the further development of my career as both a nurse practitioner, who uses the evidence-based practices in the work and a researcher, who initiates studies and projects to contribute to the existing knowledge in the field of nursing. Moreover, the scholar of the future is a creative researcher who uses the technologies and available innovations easily and productively. It is important to pay more attention to revising the recent literature in the field of nursing and focus on analyzing the problems related to the nursing theory and practice to be able to work on urgent issues and utilize different perspectives as a progressive nurse researcher.
The scope of practice of the graduate-level nurse across the continuum of care and the role in the interprofessional team
The graduate-level nurse often faces the necessity of performing a variety of roles as a player of the Interprofessional team in the organization. To perform this role effectively, it is necessary to focus on the constant development as a professional because much attention should be paid to such aspects as the work as a practitioner, researcher, innovator, changer agent, leader, and educator. All these roles cover the scope of the nursing practice, and my task is to develop all these dimensions of my professional identity.
The completion of the Capstone Project can provide evidence to state that nurses are lifelong learners. Moreover, according to the statements formulated by the Institute of Medicine of National Academies (2010), nurses are expected to use all their knowledge in their work. Focusing on this idea and details of the Capstone Project, I should state that nurses should always be ready to use new technologies and innovative tools that can improve the quality of the provided care. The Capstone Project results are also correlated with the idea that nurses need to train constantly, and systems of their education should be effective to address the need for high-qualified nurses who can easily adapt to changes in practices, tools, and resources that are utilized in the everyday practice.
I agree that nurses perform an important role as part of the Interprofessional team, and they can add to the experience and knowledge of physicians while focusing on the particular aspects of the care and evidence-based practice. Thus, the Capstone Project demonstrates that the effective utilization of interventions is possible only when physicians and nurses work as a team. Finally, more data to support ideas and interventions, as well as policies, need to be collected and analyzed regularly, and nurses can be actively involved in this process.
