Definitions
The medical field is essential to caring for people, and nurses play an important role. Nursing is the therapeutic process of caring for a patient or a nurse (Sharifi et al., 2019). This means that these workers should, in every possible way, assist and help people improve their health. The environment can be defined as the totality of events and conditions around people that affect all aspects of their lives (Cooper et al., 2020). Such a definition is suitable for the medical field since the state of a person can be significantly affected by where he is.
Health is characterized as the general condition of a person, which means their complete well-being (Hasselgren et al., 2020). This means a combination of different factors determines a human’s normal state. A person can be defined as having a unique holistic personality in any field of activity (Wei et al., 2019). Thus, it can be said that all these definitions are interconnected and are part of the healthcare system. To fully understand the essence of the nursing profession, it is necessary to study all the definitions and compare how the teaching system correlates with real practice.
Personal Definitions
Nursing is an important area of the health care system, dealing with the prevention and treatment of disease, as well ashelping patients and doctors. A specialist must improve his qualifications, expand his professional knowledge, and study new medical technologies and drugs for a specialist to cope with the duties assigned to him successfully. Nurses are one of the most critical employees in every healthcare facility. It is on them that the organization of patient care and the efficiency of doctors’ work depend. This fits into my nursing philosophy as the primary definition denotes the entire profession.
The environment in nursing can be defined in different ways depending on the context. This may be the patient’s environment, the conditions in which he is kept, and the nurse’s job, in this case, is to keep everything in good condition to contribute to the patient’s recovery. In addition, the environment is a public health area that nurses should strive to improve. This relates to my philosophy: I consider a comfortable environment indispensable for the patient’s recovery.
Health includes all spheres of a human being, such as the psyche, body, and spirit. This term defines the unity of congenital and acquired characteristics and that a person carries individually peculiar, primarily biologically determined traits. In my philosophy, the concept of health is one of the keys and contains the primary goal of nursing.
Comparison Analysis
Miami Dade College Benjamin Leon School of Nursing’s approach to nursing is based on the fact that nursing is an exact science in which knowledge, critical thinking, and the ability to assess risks correctly play an essential role. In the value paradigm of this institution, fundamental aspects are the ability to work in a team, cooperation, and mutual assistance among staff. Thanks to this approach, it is possible to form the right ethical relationships between doctors and nurses, allowing them to treat people effectively in the future. The development of areas such as medical and personal responsibility is highly valued at Miami Dade College, and therefore, they are given a lot of attention in teaching (Miami Dade College, 2022). This approach makes this institution one of the leading institutions in educating future nurses.
The hospital selected for comparison is the Cleveland Clinic, whose approach and philosophy differ slightly. The core value for the hospital is innovation and implementation to find the best patient care (Cleveland Clinic, 2022). This philosophy has a strong foundation as the clinic is old and has evolved throughout its history. This view of medical practice is consistent with the emphasis at Miami Dade College on knowledge and its critical reflection. After such processes, one can achieve the invention and successful application of any innovations in medicine.
Communication is the second aspect valued in the hospital and the college because full integration into the organization is impossible without it. Without sufficient communication skills, the nurse cannot correctly provide assistance and support to patients because they will not trust them. The institutions’ approaches are similar, as the college and the referred clinic have their central values of knowledge and its practical application. Thus, nurse practitioners could integrate into this clinic effectively since the college teaches them to act correctly and critically evaluate any situation. This is important for nurses because mindfulness is the key to success in caring for patients.
Summary and Reflection
The philosophy of nursing is of great importance in the practice and profession, as medical personnel must be able to apply knowledge and experience correctly. A comparative analysis of the medical institution’s basic norms and goals with the college’s philosophy shows that students can work effectively after their studies, thanks to the right approach to teaching. Nursing care is essential for the recovery of patients and, therefore, must be of the highest quality and in compliance with all necessary rules. From this assignment, you could learn a lot of information by reflecting on your nursing philosophy. This can help in my future profession because I will know what and for what I am doing.
