Introduction
Organizational behavior is an essential factor to grasp and consider for people who work in teams as managers or leaders. This knowledge is helpful to set mutual goals and make any work more efficient than it would be without appropriate organization and scheduling. The following paper is a personal development portfolio that is intended to describe and cover the primary skills and experience acquired during the organizational behavior course.
Employees’ Performance and OB
Performance and productivity of every employee are dependent on organizational behavior standards and practices as every person who works in a team should consider and follow certain rules set in a particular society or company. Organizational behavior identifies such factors as job satisfaction and social status of every worker (DuBrin, 2013). Indeed, all colleagues have to be respected, regardless of their races, sexes, ethnic backgrounds, and so on. When people feel comfortable at their workplaces, their productivity rate increases as they do not have to cope with stresses or humiliation by other individuals who surround them on a daily basis. Also, an appropriate organizational behavior of leaders and superiors is one of the most essential factors that influence the entire workflow, employees’ moods, their attitudes towards other colleagues, and the desire to work in general. It would be proper to mention that employees’ performance and productivity factors also depend on motivation provided to them by leaders or superiors (DuBrin, 2013). If people are motivated to gain high results and try to improve the quality of their work as much as possible, it means that the team is well-organized. Moreover, such evidence proves that workers have respectable relationships among one another.
Important Areas of Organizational Behavior
The most important areas of organizational behavior include such factors as employees’ job satisfaction and their attitudes towards different duties and responsibilities. Also, emotions, moods, and motivation of every person involved in the process of product creation are considered to be essential as these qualities influence the entire company’s progress (DuBrin, 2013). The areas mentioned above are selected as the most important points because they influence the general presentation and reliability of every item produces by the working team.
Various emotional issues might have an adverse impact on people’s work productivity as they may be concerned about their personal problems. Unfortunately, individuals who bully their weaker or less professional colleagues ruin the working atmosphere and make some employees feel neglected (DuBrin, 2013). As every emotion influences the quality of the final product or service provided by the company, it is essential for every team member to be respected and know that his or her ideas are helpful for other people.
As it is mentioned above, motivated people are more productive and show better results than other stressful individuals. There are different types of motivation (personal or external). Every employee might have initiative thoughts or set particular goals that are intended to improve one’s productivity. In turn, colleagues and superiors may outline their employees’ good sides and traits to motivate them (DuBrin, 2013). When workers receive compliments, they feel that their participation in a certain process is needed and valued by others. Therefore, they have a desire to make high-quality products and be beneficial for the company they work for on a daily basis. It would be proper to mention that every individual wants to reach particular goals in one’s career, which is considered to be the first motivating factor. Nevertheless, it is always a pleasure to have good relationships with other colleagues and help them to cope with various difficulties that emerge during the working process.
Applying OB Concepts to the Future Job
During the course of organizational behavior, the group studied the concepts of motivation, working environment perception, individual decision making, and some other aspects helpful in different professional activities. As it is mentioned above, all the factors discussed previously are useful for employees’ performance and productivity (Luthans, Luthans, & Luthans, 2015). The knowledge of decision making is very beneficial for managers as they are obliged to analyze all the advantages and disadvantages of certain actions to arrive at an appropriate conclusion. The educational course contains many theories that have to be implemented in practice and evaluated by every student to identify the most suitable strategy in every instance (Luthans et al., 2015). The future position of the marketing department’s manager in any company requires a person to motivate one’s auxiliaries and develop organizational plans, goals, and working strategies.
Applying Coursework to the Future Workplace
To apply the coursework materials and knowledge to the future workplace, it would be proper to consider taking such steps as evaluating the most helpful information and comparing it to all the requirements and duties necessary to occupy the position of a marketing department manager. Indeed, the course of organizational behavior contains only general information. Therefore, appropriate practices based on the acquired knowledge must be developed by every employee after working at least for two months (Luthans et al., 2015). It is essential to understand how all the learned processes work in reality to develop a suitable strategy for the future career.
Links Between Completed Courses
The following paragraph is intended to describe how the course of organizational behavior is related to other studies completed within the last semester. The group learned such subjects as management and business communications previously. The knowledge acquired during these classes is helpful in understanding organizational behavior and its main concepts (Luthans et al., 2015). There are many similar factors in the studies mentioned above. For instance, both management and OB courses contain the information about leadership qualities and working in a team. In turn, the study of business communications demonstrates professional techniques of responsibilities delegation among colleagues and their relationships among one another when working in a team.
Ethical and Cultural Issues
The profession of a manager is overwhelmed with a plethora of ethical and cultural issues that should be considered by every member of the working team. As it is mentioned above, there should be no discrimination among employees. Every worker should be treated equally, regardless of such factors as skin color, national background, education, age, sex, body complexion, and other specific issues (Luthans et al., 2015). Also, it would be proper to state that ethical norms should be followed by every employee that works in a team as it influences the general quality of work. When there is a distractive object, the society does not concentrate on its primary duties and objectives. Therefore, every team should consist of people who have good relationships and can be useful for one another during the working process (Morgeson, Aguinis, Waldman, & Siegel, 2013). The views of this paper’s author changed after the organizational behavior course as some cultural issues are presented by employees of different nationalities if they are obliged to work together. People of diverse ethnic backgrounds have different views on the same objects. To avoid misunderstandings, they have to agree to compromises. Otherwise, their work might not be productive, especially if these workers are hired by an international company.
Improvement of Personal Skills
After undergoing the course of organizational behavior, it is possible to see that such professional skills of managers as report writing, critical thinking, oral communication, and several others improve rapidly. For instance, every group obtains the knowledge about communication with colleagues during the working process. According to the discussed theory, every worker should be polite and helpful to one’s job partners (Morgeson et al., 2013). When people who work together have a sincere relationship, their collaboration is likely to demonstrate decent results. The communication skills developed during the study are important for the future collaboration as this knowledge improves the quality of the production process and makes colleagues feel respected, whereas their contributions to the completion of certain tasks are valued by superiors.
Conclusion
The course of organizational behavior identifies the main concepts that should be considered in every firm that employs many workers. Appropriate standards and rules of mutual work improve the quality of the final product or service and make relationships among colleagues more professional and respectable. The OB subject presented much useful information that might be helpful in the future careers of the students who successfully underwent it. Every company has to set its own goals and methods to reach them. Nevertheless, all these practices should be based on organizational behavior principles to make the working process more efficient and productive.
