Current Team

The team I am currently a part of is Walmart. I am a Regional Pharmacy Clinical Services Manager, which gives me a certain degree of power and responsibility. My work primarily consists of discussing matters with other employees and ensuring that Walmart customers are able to receive the best value for their money. As a team, we meet both in person and virtually, although online meetings are much more frequent.

Strong Aspects

I think that the strength of the current organizational culture comes from the independence and self-sufficiency of the employees. Directed by a shared vision and individual workplace objectives, each of us is able to contribute to the goals of the Walmart brand without needing to be “lead by the hand”. This makes management more straightforward and allows us to have less company meetings.

Weak Aspects

Alternatively, communication needs to be improved. Due to the majority of work interaction being online, the amount of communication and its scope are limited. There is a lack of connection and interaction that could foster a sense of shared community within employees. Instead of feeling like a team that works on specific organizational goals, my present colleagues are much more distant and difficult to understand.

Improving Shared Values

There must be more opportunities for employees of all levels to interact and communicate. I think that team communication and a sense of connection can be improved by allowing employees more ability to interact in a variety of environments (“Three strategies to improve team connection,” n.d.). Using both the online sphere and in-person meetings, along with non-work related events, could strengthen the sense of partnership that Walmart workers share.

Why are Values Weak

I think that the main reason for this issue’s existence is the strain caused by relying on online meetings, as well as the infrequency of interaction between Walmart employees. Having no pathways to establish bonds within the workplace, each employee is more individualistic and disjointed from the common cause. It is necessary to build a more cohesive and inclusive team culture to succeed.
