Modern world provides a wide range of opportunities for young people to express their abilities and use energy being an integral part of teens’ activities and way of life. Statistical data show that sport usually keeps young people out of trouble; organized sports are the basic means for teenagers to be safe and sound bringing up their strong personality and self confidence.
According to some general surveys for the previous decades the greatest part of the youth population has been involved in sport participation. Social Research Institute, Michigan, presented some statistical facts showing that more than 20 million teens in the USA go in for organized sports in after-school period of time. It is important to stress that psychological concepts find this new streams of organized sports development to be very useful for modern generation; the outdoor adventure activities and sports play a significant role in the development of athletic programs and team plays being completely controlled by adults and allowing teens to learn working together for one result (Weinberg, 2007).
Organized sports are usually expressed through city sports programs and school and church ball teams. Modern youth generation supports the idea that organized sports allow them to get rid of many possible troubles; thus, they agree with psychological concepts of safe type of activities for young generation expressed through organized sports.
Why is sport referred to the most appropriate, useful and safe activities?… Firstly, it is necessary to underline the fact that organized sports are aimed at cultural values and social structure reproduction through line competitions organization and teens’ skills development. It is a complicated process of children’s personality formation being simplified with the help of interesting adventures activities and team plays. Then, as it was stressed before, organized sports keep teens under complete control making their activities interesting and safe at the same time.
Diving into the depth of the argument it should be noted that organized sports cover basic types of teens’ physical and mental development: 1. recreational games – coordination development; 2. spontaneous play – problem solving and self directed organization; 3. elite competition – accomplishment and skillful performance; 4. recreational team sports – de-emphasize of scoring and skills development. So, organized activities are centralized around safe and useful development of modern young people (Mahoney & Larson, 2005).
Nevertheless, there are a lot of kinds of extreme organized sports which can cause danger for physical state of young people. It should be noted that very often teens can be injured or get some traumas resulted from active team plays and causing troubles to one’s health. Alternative positions support the idea of high risks because of organized sport trainings and high rate of activities (White, 1999).
To sum up the argument one should underline the fact that organized sports introduced in modern society really help teens to be kept out of troubles involving them in adventures activities and developing physical and mental skills. Different types of sports are aimed at the development of skills and abilities of the teens and allowing them working in one team for common purpose. Social Research center showed that the greater part of youth population is involved in organized sports activities which means that modern society is on the way to its progressive development.
