Name of agency and reasons for selection
People’s Community Clinic is chosen for this discussion for several reasons. First, this clinic covers the needs of underserved populations, including individuals without insurance or challenged by their race or culture. Second, its anti-racism statement allows for identifying the challenge of negative experiences and addressing health disparities in the community (Anti-racism statement, n.d.). Such policies and strategies play an important role in modern nursing and health care.
Brief history and mission of the agency
The clinic was created about 50 years ago to enhance public health in the community. Its history covers social shifts from hippies at the beginning of the 1970s to households at the end of the 1990s (Our history, n.d.). The initial goal was to provide college students and part-time employees with affordable health care (Our history, n.d.). Its current mission is to work with all underserved populations in Austin, Texas, and offer high-quality services regardless of skin color, age, or gender.
Target population the agency serves
Following such anti-racial and unbiased attitudes toward the target population, People’s Community Clinic develops its services in different fields for all people with or without insurance, any age, gender, and race.
Services and programs offered
The adolescent health department focuses on cooperating with young people and supporting them during their psychological and physiological shifts. The pediatrics department develops programs to provide young children with comprehensive care, including immunization, parental guidance, and screening. Adults solve their complex health issues, while women use wellness services for family planning and pregnancy.
What criteria (i.e. income, age, etc.) must clients meet in order to be served by the agency
One of the remarkable issues of this clinic is that all individuals can make an appointment online without the necessity to meet particular criteria.
What you found interesting about this agency or helpful for you as a professional nurse
As a professional nurse, I find the chosen approach to cooperating with all underserved and uninsured populations as the main strength of the People’s Community Clinic. Instead of choosing between patients, the clinic is ready to help anyone who asks for help. High-quality healthcare has become a rarity today because many facilities require serious financial support, while other organizations consider formality issues. People’s Community Clinic’s intention to support as many people as possible proves the readiness of healthcare providers to cooperate and share their knowledge with society.
